Chase Stokes isn’t so stoked about the chatter surrounding Kelsea Ballerini‘s new music. 

The Outer Banks actor responded to fans who posted mean comments about singer Olivia Rodrigo after people wondered if her new song on the Mount Pleasant EP was about his former girlfriend, Madelyn Cline.

Kelsea, who recently ended her nearly three-year relationship with Chase in September, shared a TikTok video on November 16th. In the video, she lip-synced to a song from her new project, “People Pleaser,” while wearing a stylish all-red outfit. She captioned the video with a message for others who tend to prioritize others’ needs: “For my fellow people pleasers. I see you.”

Rather than discuss the video’s main point, some people online brought up Kelsea’s song “Emerald City.” Fans have speculated this song is about her perceived rivalry with Madelyn Cline, who used to date Kelsea’s ex-boyfriend, Chase Stokes, between 2020 and 2021.

One person commented they weren’t impressed with the artist’s latest song, but understood why someone might be envious. Another user pointed out the contradiction of creating music to empower women while seemingly targeting another woman with it.

Okay, so after all the hate started flooding in, Chase finally said something, and honestly, it was perfect. He actually left a comment on the video – can you believe it?! – and it was basically like, ‘Seriously, people? Get a life!’ He even used a strong word, which just proves how much he was defending Kelsea. It was amazing, honestly. I was so relieved someone finally stood up for her like that.

The 33-year-old has shown he still supports Kelsea, even after her representative announced their breakup three months ago.
