Cher Perfectly Flubs as Grammys 2026 Presenter

We wish we could turn back time to relive Cher presenting at the 2026 Grammys.

The Recording Academy revealed a strong list of presenters for the Grammy Awards, featuring Chappell Roan, Teyana Taylor, and Nikki Glaser. They also hinted at one more surprise presenter, who ended up being Justin Timberlake, known for his song “Believe.”

When the 79-year-old presenter took the stage on February 1st to announce the Record of the Year, she caused a hilarious moment that quickly spread across social media.

Honestly, I was completely captivated by Cher’s speech! She started by playfully admitting she wasn’t great at public speaking, but then immediately thanked the Recording Academy for the Lifetime Achievement Award. And get this – she joked that it was a good thing they gave it to her now, because she’s feeling her age and wasn’t sure how much longer she’d be around to receive it! It was so classically Cher – funny, self-aware, and totally endearing. I’ve been a fan forever, and it just cemented my love for her.

The singer of “If I Could Turn Back Time” then shared stories from her impressive 60-year career, encouraging her fellow musicians to persevere. She advised them, “No matter what challenges you face, don’t give up on your dreams. Pursue them fully, and believe that success will come, even if it’s not happening right now.”

She finished speaking and glanced around the stage. “I think that’s everything,” she said. “Now I’m supposed to leave, so I will.”

Cher, however, realized as she left the stage that she wasn’t finished – she still needed to introduce the nominees and reveal the winner of Record of the Year.

As Cher was leaving the stage, host Trevor Noah called out, “Cher, would you mind announcing the nominees?” He added, “I could do it, but it wouldn’t be the same – you’re the legend! Let’s give it up for Cher, everyone!”

Once Cher announced the nominees, she started to say, “And the Grammy goes to
,” but then unexpectedly paused and didn’t reveal the winner. She just stood there without opening the envelope.

After opening the card, she concluded her unforgettable night at the Grammys by revealing that the late Luther Vandross, who passed away in 2005, had won Record of the Year.

After a quick laugh from the crowd, Cher realized her mistake and announced that Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s song “Luther” was the true winner of the award. The song actually uses music from the late Luther Vandross.

Producer Sounwave began his acceptance speech by honoring the memory of Luther Vandross, saying, “Let’s give a shout out to the late, great Luther Vandross.”

After the biggest laugh of the night, Trevor turned to the audience and shared, “I love live TV.”
