Cher’s Son Chaz Bono Marries Shara Blue Mathes

Chaz Bono‘s got Shara Blue Mathes, and baby, Shara’s got Chaz.

Cher’s son, who she had with her late husband Sonny Bono, married Shara in Los Angeles on March 8th after being together for almost ten years. But their connection actually began a long time ago.

Chaz recently shared with People magazine that he’s known his wife, Shara, for over 40 years, recalling they first met as teenagers. He jokingly noted it’s unusual for someone to marry their first-ever kiss decades later.

Although they first met as teenagers at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, the couple didn’t become romantically involved until 2017, when they reconnected after many years.

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel was beautifully decorated with rich burgundy and deep purple flowers in red vases for the wedding, creating a dramatic and romantic atmosphere along the black carpeted aisle.

Shara, who has a 25-year-old son named Cooper from a previous relationship, celebrated with a beautiful A-line wedding gown. The dress had delicate lace sleeves and a matching scalloped neckline. She finished the look with a veil styled in her curled black hair and carried a bouquet that complemented the wedding flowers, featuring purple orchids and pops of red.

Chaz looked sharp in a traditional black tuxedo with a matching boutonnière, complementing his wife’s flowers. Cher, who is also a mother to 49-year-old Elijah Allman with her late ex-husband Gregg Allman, wore a completely black outfit.

For Chaz, marrying Shara was like coming home.

The actor from American Horror Story shared that his partner makes him feel whole, knowing she’ll always be his supportive companion, best friend, and soulmate. He believes they’ll face anything life throws their way, finding strength and security in their relationship – they’ve found home in each other.

Although the couple generally keeps their relationship to themselves, they sometimes share sweet moments online. For example, Shara publicly celebrated Chaz’s 51st birthday in 2020, praising him with a heartfelt post.

I was so relieved to see her post something positive and hopeful the other day! It really meant a lot. She shared that she’s determined to make the next year all about love, and honestly, that’s exactly what we all needed to hear. I’m so excited to see what she does!

In 2023, on their sixth anniversary, Chaz showed his appreciation by posting on Instagram, “I’m so thankful to share my life with this incredible woman.”
