Chris Pratt is known for starring in successful films. He became famous and made a lot of money playing Star-Lord in the Marvel movies, but he’s also been in other big hits like The Lego Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Garfield Movie, and the Jurassic World films. He’s found success on streaming too, with the popular series The Terminal List. However, not everything he’s done has been a hit, and his recent thriller, which didn’t perform well in theaters, will now be released on Prime Video.
Released in January by Amazon MGM Studios, Mercy didn’t do well in theaters for Chris Pratt. The film follows detective Chris Raven (Pratt) who is accused of his wife’s murder. He must prove his innocence in court, but the court uses A.I. judges – including one played by Rebecca Ferguson of Silo – and he only has 90 minutes before his execution. While critics didn’t like the movie and it failed to attract audiences in theaters, Mercy is coming to Prime Video on March 22nd, potentially giving it a second chance to find viewers.
Critics May Have Hated Mercy, But Audiences Loved It (And That Bodes Well For Its Streaming Success)

The movie Mercy is notable for the huge difference in opinion between critics and viewers. While the film’s idea – exploring a future where artificial intelligence controls law enforcement – is compelling and genuinely scary given our increasing reliance on AI, critics didn’t like how the story unfolded. Much of the movie focuses on the main character, Chris, reviewing evidence to prove his innocence, with the action happening late in the film. However, audiences overwhelmingly enjoyed it, giving it an 85% rating compared to the critics’ 25%. Viewers found it exciting, engaging, and thought-provoking, especially appreciating how realistically it portrayed the potential dangers of AI in everyday life.
Audiences particularly loved Chris Pratt’s performance, which is a good sign for how well the film Mercy will do on streaming. Pratt is already popular with Prime Video viewers, thanks to the success of The Terminal List. He also has a dedicated fanbase who enjoy his action movies. Because of this, many people who missed Mercy in theaters are likely to watch it at home, potentially giving the film a second wave of popularity.
What Else is Coming to Prime Video in March?
As a movie buff, I’m really excited about what Prime Video is offering this March! They’ve already added some fantastic films like ‘Rain Man,’ all the ‘Shrek’ movies, and even ‘Josie and the Pussycats,’ which is a total blast from the past. But it doesn’t stop there – they’re also bringing over some awesome TV shows. March is shaping up to be a seriously nostalgic month with classics like ‘Married… With Children’ and ‘Who’s the Boss’ hitting the platform on the 25th. If you want to see everything that’s coming, you can find the full list here.
