Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord might not be finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent rumor suggests the character could return, but fans should be cautiously optimistic about whether that will actually happen.
Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord rumored to return in Avengers: Secret Wars
Chris Pratt may reprise his role as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe event, Secret Wars. This would be the character’s first appearance since the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to reliable insider MyTimeToShineHello.
The latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie concluded with Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, returning to Earth. The film’s ending hinted at his future adventures with the message, “the mighty Star-Lord will return.” Last year, some concept art appeared online suggesting Quill would team up with characters like Vision, Wong, and newer heroes such as Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, and Wiccan. However, directors Joe and Anthony Russo stated that the artwork wasn’t official.
Chris Pratt recently discussed the possibility of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an interview with Happy Sad Confused. He explained that Marvel makes decisions gradually and he’s open to whatever they have in mind. Pratt also shared that he has a clear idea of where he’d like to see his character go, calling the potential future storyline “fantastic” and stating he’s already presented his ideas and is eager to help shape the next decade of Marvel stories.
After ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, there was talk of a standalone Star-Lord movie, but those plans seemed to stop when director James Gunn moved to DC Studios. The film ended with a new Guardians team led by Rocket Raccoon, but Marvel hasn’t announced if or when we’ll see this new team again in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
The next two Avengers movies are planned for release in late 2026 and 2027. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. The Russo brothers, who previously directed several successful Marvel films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, are returning to direct both of these new installments.
