As a big movie fan, I just heard that one of my favorites is leaving Prime Video soon – it’ll be available there for only one more day! It’s the sci-fi action film starring Chris Pratt, and it’s heading to a different streaming service after that.
Starting January 1st, you’ll be able to stream The Tomorrow War on Peacock. Originally released by Amazon Studios in 2021, this movie follows a team of soldiers who travel to the year 2051 to battle a dangerous threat.
The Tomorrow War stars Chris Pratt alongside J.K. Simmons and Yvonne Strahovski, who is known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale. The film also includes appearances from Mary Lynn Rajskub and Mike Mitchell.
Although the movie has an interesting idea, it received mixed reactions from viewers and reviewers. While audiences generally enjoyed Chris Pratt’s performance in the sci-fi film—giving it a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter—critics weren’t as impressed.
The science fiction film received mixed reviews, scoring 51% on the Tomatometer. Critics generally agreed that while the action was impressive and the performances from Chris Pratt, J.K. Simmons, and Yvonne Strahovski were strong, the storyline felt predictable and lacked depth. Despite this, The Tomorrow War was recognized with several nominations, including four at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards, where it was up for Movie of the Year.
The Tomorrow War Served As An Important Moment In Chris Pratt’s Career
Chris Pratt was already known for action roles in films like Jurassic World and the Guardians of the Galaxy series, but The Tomorrow War was the first movie where he also served as a producer. As an executive producer on the film, Pratt shared that it contained subtle references to some of his favorite science fiction movies.
I enjoy how the film places its main characters in unexpected circumstances,” Pratt explained to Space.com. “It’s a great way to offer insightful, yet subtle, commentary on the world around us, and it can be really captivating.
Chris Pratt wasn’t the only one on set who loved science fiction. His co-star, Jasmine Mathews, also shared her appreciation for sci-fi films, especially those that felt realistic and relatable. As she explained, she enjoys sci-fi that ‘feels almost too close to home and could mirror reality.’
You can now watch The Tomorrow War on Prime Video, and it will also be available on Peacock starting January 1st.
