Chrissy Teigen is in mourning.
The Cravings cookbook author shared her dad Ron Teigen died on June 9.
“Yesterday I woke up with a daddy and went to bed without one,” Chrissy wrote on Instagram June 10. “All the same things happened. Hurried shower. Picked up stuffing from the dog toys. Answered some emails. Avoided some. Laughed with my friends and put on a pretty dress for a friend’s birthday. Took a video. How cute is this dress!”
She continued, “And then my dad just like…f–king died.”
Chrissy explained that his father’s death was sudden. She wrote that even though she’d accepted her father’s age and the possibility of his passing, she was still completely devastated when it happened.
You know, even though things were tough, I’m so grateful for the moments I did get to share with Ron towards the end. Those final months, however challenging, were truly precious, and I cherish the time we had together.
Chrissy told us she wrote a letter to her dad expressing how thankful she is for everything he did for her family while she was growing up, and how much she loves him. She said giving him the letter was a special moment, and she cherishes all their years together.
She fondly remembered her dad’s quirky passions – bass guitar, swing dancing, wood carving, animals, YouTube, and, of course, his family – and how he seemed to find something to playfully complain about constantly. She has countless videos of these moments, and though they show him being critical, they now bring her joy.
“God I love you so much. I will talk to you every night. Thank you for being such a great dad,” Chrissy added. “Until we complain again.”
Ron was married to Chrissy’s mom Vilailuck “Pepper” Teigen for over 35 years before their 2019 divorce.

Recently, Ron moved into an assisted living facility close to where Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, live with their four children: Luna, 10, Miles, 8, Esti, 3, and Wren, 2. At the same time, Pepper, who came to the United States in the 1980s, moved back to her home country of Thailand.
In a recent Instagram post, Chrissy shared how rewarding it is to volunteer at places like retirement homes. She grew up going with her mom to visit residents, and now cherishes the chance to see a special friend there too. She makes time to volunteer often, and says it always brightens her day.
In the wake of Ron’s passing, John postponed his concerts in New Mexico and Arizona.
He shared on Instagram on June 10th that a family member had passed away and he needed to return home to be with his family.
