According to a new report from Bloomberg, Xbox is planning significant job cuts next month. These cuts are part of a larger restructuring effort led by the new CEO, Asha Sharma, to address falling sales. While the exact number of layoffs is currently unknown, they are anticipated to happen shortly after Microsoft’s fiscal year ends on June 30th.

Beyond the recent job cuts, Xbox is also planning major budget reductions in areas like marketing. These changes are happening because revenue has been falling for the past few years, a topic that Xbox head Satya Nadella addressed in a recent blog post called ‘Next 100 Days: Xbox Reset’.
In a recent blog post, Sharma discussed current challenges, noting that the company is projected to finish the fiscal year with only a 3% profit margin, a decrease from the previous year. He pointed out that over the last five years, they’ve invested more than $20 billion in content, their platform, and hardware, yet annual revenue has dropped by almost $500 million. Sharma emphasized that this trend is unsustainable and needs to change.
Xbox is changing how it approaches branding and game releases, and at their recent showcase, they announced that both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will only be available on Xbox. Many people thought E-Day would also come to PlayStation, particularly after the release of Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5, but the remastered Halo game is still planned for PlayStation later this year.
