Christian Eriksen is focusing on his recovery.
Following a scary incident where the Danish soccer player collapsed during a recent friendly match before the World Cup, he’s letting fans know he’s recovering well. This happened five years after a similar collapse during a Euro 2020 game, which led to him having a pacemaker-like device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted.
Eriksen shared on Instagram on June 8th that he’s doing well and is back home with his family. He explained that while the recent shock from his ICD was upsetting for him and his family, it wasn’t the same as the incident in 2021. He’s feeling good and has begun his recovery.
As someone who really prioritizes well-being, I’m deeply thankful for the amazing doctors who’ve looked after my heart over the years. Their skill and knowledge meant my ICD worked perfectly when I needed it most – it did exactly what it was supposed to do, and that’s a huge relief!
Eriksen, who has a son and daughter with his partner Sabrina Kvist Jensen, is currently prioritizing his recovery, family time, a vacation, and playing football with his kids.
During the Denmark vs. Ukraine match in Odense, Denmark on June 7th, Christian Eriksen experienced a medical emergency. He grabbed his chest and collapsed on the field in the 65th minute. Players from both teams quickly gathered around him while medical staff provided care, and the crowd chanted his name. Thankfully, Eriksen was able to walk off the field with assistance, and the game was called off.

This event happened nearly five years after the Wolfsburg player collapsed with a cardiac arrest during a game in June 2021 and needed to be revived on the field.
Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, said Eriksen briefly lost consciousness before medical staff brought him back to life.
During a press conference, Boesen explained that they performed CPR on the athlete after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He said they were able to restore his heartbeat with just one defibrillation shock, which is very quick. Boesen added that he wasn’t a heart specialist and would leave the detailed medical explanation to the hospital doctors.
The midfielder was then fitted with his ICD that allowed him to continue his soccer career.
