Christy Martin Defends Sydney Sweeney Amid Ruby Rose’s Biopic Comment

Christy Martin is using her defensive swing outside of the ring.

A former boxer publicly defended Sydney Sweeney after Ruby Rose criticized Sweeney’s performance as the athlete in the movie about Christy.

Christy shared on Instagram on November 12th that she’s always been a resilient person, and that spirit extends to how she now supports others. She posted a photo with Sydney Sweeney from the movie set and explained that she’s defending Sydney against recent criticism. Christy emphasized that Sydney worked incredibly hard on the film, not just for herself, but specifically to help tell Christy’s story and to give a voice to others who are struggling in private.

The 57-year-old continued, “So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and ally!”

Even though the boxing champion liked him, Ruby didn’t think Sydney, 28, was right for the lead role in the movie, which didn’t do well in theaters after it came out on November 7th. The film, directed by David Michôd, only made $1.3 million despite costing $15 million to produce, and critics at Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 66% rating.

The initial script for the Christy Martin biopic was amazing and deeply impactful, according to a post the 39-year-old actress shared on Threads on November 11th. She also revealed she was once considered for a role in the film. She noted that many involved with the project had personal connections to the story, with a lot of the cast and crew identifying as LGBTQ+. She added that losing out on roles is a common part of being an actor, and this experience was a reason she continued pursuing acting.

Ruby criticized Sydney’s involvement, saying her PR team was trying to spin the film’s failure by claiming it was done ‘for the people.’ Ruby argued that audiences don’t want to support someone who dislikes them, and that Sydney damaged the movie. She also expressed that Christy, another person involved, deserved a better outcome.

TopMob News has reached out to Sydney’s reps for comment but haven’t heard back.

Although the star of Anyone But You hasn’t publicly addressed Ruby’s statements, she has previously shared how incredibly proud she was to be a part of the movie.

In an Instagram post on November 10th, Ashley Sweeney expressed immense pride in the movie, praising director David’s work and the story they created together. She was especially honored to portray Christy Martin, a strong and resilient figure, calling the experience one of the highlights of her life.

She isn’t concerned with how well the movie performs financially, but with the effect Christy’s life—and her work fighting domestic violence after her ex-husband, James Martin, tried to kill her in 2010—has on the audience.

Oh my gosh, this movie… it’s about so much more than just a story, you know? It’s about fighting to live, being unbelievably brave, and never giving up on hope. And the best part? The people behind it aren’t just making a film, they’re actually helping people. They’ve been working so hard to get the word out about domestic violence, and honestly, if Christy’s story inspires just one woman to finally leave a bad situation and find safety… then everything, everything will have been worth it. It’s just… amazing.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)

He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they had a private matter to resolve, unrelated to their work on the show. He emphasized it was a personal issue that had been developing, and definitely not a romantic one.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Netflix and the production team held a thorough audition process. I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, but they ultimately got it because they were the most qualified. I also want to clarify that I didn’t help them get the part by having anyone else removed from consideration, as he explained in an Instagram post.

After years of speculation about a disagreement between them, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty’s former co-star on Charmed, revealed on her December 2023 podcast, Let’s Be Clear, that Alyssa Milano supposedly gave a show producer an ultimatum: choose between her and Shannen. Combs claims this led to Shannen leaving the show in 2001.

In a February 2024 Instagram post, Alyssa stated she couldn’t get anyone fired and that any current accounts of the events were inaccurate because of how much time had passed.

At a MegaCon Orlando panel, Shannen stated that, to her knowledge, the events as they happened were accurately portrayed and there was no attempt to rewrite history.

Shannen passed away in July 2024 after a yearslong battle with cancer.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she considered actor Topher Grace, known from “That ’70s Show,” to be the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a consistently impolite and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed annoyed when he was a guest on The Talk in 2014, after she accidentally mispronounced his name.

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?’ She responded sharply, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely overwhelm you.’ She finished by saying, ‘You have no idea what you’re up against.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean. This followed a post Brittany shared on Instagram on August 23rd, where she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she appreciated her current feminine lifestyle.

I was really shocked when JoJo Siwa shared on TikTok back in 2022 that Candace Cameron Bure was the rudest celebrity she’d ever met. Apparently, years ago, Candace wouldn’t take a photo with JoJo on a red carpet, and it really hurt her feelings. It was good to see Candace quickly apologize, though. She admitted she’d broken JoJo’s heart as an 11-year-old and sincerely said she was sorry for not taking that picture – she even said she felt awful about it!

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday movies, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

As someone who champions inclusivity, I was really disappointed to see the recent comment made by the actress. JoJo, who bravely shared their identity as part of the LGBTQ+ community back in 2021, rightfully called it out as rude and deeply hurtful – not just to them, but to an entire community. It’s a reminder that words matter, and we all need to be mindful of the impact they have.

Oh my god, this whole thing with Courtney Love and Olivia Rodrigo was wild. Back in June 2021, Courtney basically called Olivia out for using Hole’s album cover as inspiration for a photo without giving credit – can you believe it?! But Olivia’s response was so sweet, she just said she loved Courtney and related to what she was going through. And Courtney? She totally flipped! She was all, ‘You’re welcome!’ and then dropped this random detail about her favorite florist being in London, inviting Olivia to DM her for the info. It was so… Courtney! I just lived for the whole exchange, honestly. That winking face emoji sealed the deal – iconic!

While on Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained the reason he and the Forrest Gump star didn’t get along while filming the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, saying I had everything I needed.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills probably remembers Lauren’s famous line from the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt, and it really exploded when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and Jason Wahler making a sex tape.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out after the release date for Fast & Furious 9 was delayed until April 2020. On the same day, a spinoff movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced for 2019. Shortly after, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson remained part of the cast.

Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that they still haven’t spoken directly, though he hopes to. He did mention having a conversation with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others involved with the franchise. He said he took responsibility for speaking out, calling it unprofessional and a mistake.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which supposedly began because of a disagreement over a dancer and competition between their concert tours, ended when Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch as a peace offering before Swift’s Reputation Tour began.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I just walked into my dressing room and there was, like, a REAL olive branch! I’m seriously freaking out – it means SO much to me, I can’t even explain! It’s just… everything!

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and made some pointed comments about her co-star.

I was really surprised when I heard about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they weren’t actually friends, just coworkers. Andy Cohen brought it up on Watch What Happens Live back in September 2017, asking SJP directly how she felt about it, and honestly, it was a tough moment to watch.

She was deeply upset, saying she felt heartbroken about something. They had talked about it all week, and she explained that she found the situation really disturbing because her memory of what happened was completely different.

It’s definitely sad, but I believe what truly connects us is the shared experience we had. It started as a professional relationship, but over many years, it became something personal. I’m hoping that those years and the special connection we built will outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a privilege to be part of something so meaningful for so long.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

I’ve been following both Elton John and Madonna for years, and it’s honestly a little sad to see their rivalry still going strong. It all started way back in 2004, when Elton accepted an award and just completely ripped into Madonna. He basically called her out for lip-syncing during her concerts, saying something like, ‘What happened to actually singing live?’ He even went on to say that anyone who lip-syncs for fans who paid good money to see a real performance should face serious consequences – it was a pretty shocking outburst, even for him! It really kicked off a feud that, frankly, still feels unresolved after all this time.

The actress, formerly known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award consideration. She explained her decision by saying she didn’t believe the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure during a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “When someone consistently shows you their true colors, you should believe it,” Rhimes explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s helped me a lot.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week made headlines everywhere. A month later, Cardi explained what started the argument with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict really escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had seemingly liked, then unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting. Nicki has said she didn’t actually do that.

I was set to earn a lot of money from my Bruno Mars tour, but I chose to be with my daughter instead,” Cardi explained. “I love my daughter, and I’m a really good mom. It’s frustrating when people without kids criticize my choices. Everyone says the party wasn’t the right place to see another artist, but I don’t expect to run into celebrities casually, like at the grocery store or on the street.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammy Awards in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for this action, and Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

I’ve been following this whole thing for over 15 years now – the supposed ‘feud’ between Mariah and J.Lo. It all kicked off when Mariah was asked about other artists in an interview. When the interviewer brought up Jennifer Lopez, Mariah just said, “I don’t know her,” and honestly, that simple statement seemed to start everything!
