I remember a year ago, right before Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out, everyone was already feeling sorry for it. Oblivion Remastered was launching around the same time, and honestly, most of us figured Clair Obscur didn’t stand a chance.
Expedition 33 has received an impressive 12 nominations for the BAFTA Games Awards with Google Play. Both the game’s lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, and actress Kirsty Rider, who voices the character Lune, are thrilled and still somewhat surprised by the recognition.
“I honestly wasn’t prepared for any of this, and I’m still trying to make sense of it all,” Svedberg-Yen explained to TopMob Gaming. “It’s been absolutely wild – a really crazy year.”
Rider believes the game’s success happened because everything aligned perfectly, with Expedition 33 launching at just the right moment.
When you’re working on a large project, success depends on a unique combination of factors coming together just right.

Right now, it’s important to consider where we stand with the climate and whether people are actually interested in stories about it – whether in games, movies, or other media. Plus, creating something effective on this topic requires getting a lot of details right.
You can’t really foresee things like that – it’s all about everything falling into place at the perfect moment.
Svedberg-Yen added that she was thrilled with how well the game connected with players. She believes its diverse elements offer something enjoyable for everyone, which is why fans have really taken to it.
Honestly, as a fan, what really gets me is the music – it’s just incredible! But it’s not just that, people are really connecting with the visuals and the performances too. Rider even pointed out how strong the writing is, and he’s right!

Svedberg-Yen also noted that the game is incredibly addictive, and it’s been great to see players enjoy all its different features.
Expedition 33 was a critical and commercial success, earning widespread praise and numerous Game of the Year awards, including winning every category at the Golden Joysticks.
Sandfall Interactive is hoping for more awards this weekend, as Svedberg-Yen is nominated for best narrative and Rider for best supporting performer.
The BAFTA Games Awards take place on 17 April 2026 in London.
