A popular video game series known from the PlayStation 1 and 2 is coming to modern PlayStation consoles. Many publishers have recently been bringing older, well-loved games to the PlayStation 4 and 5 through ports, remasters, and remakes – franchises like Resident Evil, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid are now easier to play than ever. This trend will continue in just over a week with a classic series that hasn’t seen a new release in about 20 years.
Starting March 3rd, Aspyr will release a remastered version of Legacy of Kain: Defiance for modern gaming systems. This is exciting news for fans, as it will make the complete Legacy of Kain series playable on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for the first time. Previously, the first two games, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2, were available as “Classics,” and Aspyr released remasters of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 earlier this year. With Defiance now remastered, both new players and longtime fans can experience the entire story on current-generation PlayStation consoles.
This Series Will Continue in 2026 With a New Entry
Fans of Legacy of Kain have even more to look forward to! A brand new game, Legacy of Kain: Ascendance, is coming out next month – marking the first new installment in the series in over two decades. While previous games were 3D action-platformers, Ascendance will be a 2D action game. It’s scheduled to release on March 31st.
Even if you didn’t play the original Legacy of Kain games on PlayStation 1 and 2, they’re still fantastic to experience today. If you’re new to the series, the Soul Reaver games are a great place to start, though each game offers something different. We’re hoping the upcoming Ascendance will successfully continue the Legacy of Kain story and lead to more new games in the future.
