Classic Sonic Game Rumored to Get New Remake

As a huge Sonic fan, I’m hearing some exciting rumors! It sounds like Sega might be remaking one of the classic Sonic games, which would be amazing! Right now, a lot of us are really eager to see what the next big Sonic adventure will be. We just got Sonic Frontiers in 2022 and Sonic Superstars last year, and while Frontiers is getting a ‘Definitive Edition’ soon, it looks like Sega might have another Sonic project up their sleeve!

Mike Fischer, a former vice president at Sega, recently told Sega-16 that he’s heard the company is developing a remake of Sonic CD. First released in 1993, Sonic CD was the third game in the Sonic series. While it wasn’t as commercially successful as the Sonic games on the Sega Genesis, Sonic CD was critically acclaimed and remains a fan favorite after many years.

So, I was listening to what Fischer had to say about a possible remake of Sonic CD, but he didn’t really give us much to go on. Still, the guy knows Sega pretty well, so if a remake is happening, I bet he’d be one of the first to know. We shouldn’t get too hyped just yet, but I’m starting to think there might be something to this rumor after all.

The Timing For This Sonic Remake Would Make a Lot of Sense

With rumors of a Sonic CD remake circulating, the timing would fit well. The game introduced Metal Sonic, who is set to be the big villain in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie. Sega might want to re-release Sonic CD to reintroduce Metal Sonic to fans, especially those who aren’t familiar with his original appearance.

If the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie is why Sonic CD is being remade, we can expect the remake to be released fairly soon. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled for release on March 19, 2027, so Sega might release the Sonic CD remake around the same time. This could mean we’ll see an official announcement in the next few weeks or months.
