Classic Superhero Getting Netflix TV Show — Report

A classic superhero may be getting their own Netflix show, according to a new report.

The Phantom is a superhero first created by Lee Falk in 1936. It began as a daily comic strip and has since appeared in many different forms of media, including TV shows, movies, and video games.

What do we know about The Phantom Netflix show?

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Netflix is now developing a series based on The Phantom.

Currently, the news about a potential ‘Phantom’ TV show is just a rumor. Netflix hasn’t made any official announcements. If the rumor is true, it’s unknown whether the show would be animated or feature live actors, and we don’t know how much work has been done on it so far.

Simon Wincer directed the 1996 film The Phantom, produced by Paramount Pictures. Billy Zane played the Phantom, and the movie also featured Treat Williams, Kristy Swanson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and James Remar. Although Zane signed on for two potential sequels, the film earned only about $23.5 million worldwide, so those plans were abandoned.

Ryan Carnes went on to star in the 2010 Syfy miniseries, The Phantom. Cameron Goodman played Renny Davidson, Jean Marchand was Abel Bandermaark, Sandrine Holt played Guran, and Isabella Rossellini starred as Dr. Bella Lithia in the series.

Back in 2014, Mark Gordon and his company started working on a new movie based on The Phantom, with Management 360 also involved. Drew Simon was set to be an executive producer, but the project was eventually cancelled and never made.

Beyond the well-known versions, The Phantom has appeared in a 1943 serial with Tom Tyler, an unreleased 1961 TV pilot starring Roger Creed, and a 35-episode animated series called Phantom 2040 from the 1990s, among other adaptations.
