I’m so excited about what Cartoon Network has been doing lately! They’re really bringing back some of our favorite shows, like The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, and Regular Show with new spin-offs and sequels. Honestly, I thought we’d never see another season of Code Lyoko – it’s been off the air since 2008! But get this: the creators, Sophie Decroisette and Jerome Mouscadet, just announced they’re making a sequel! It’s such amazing news for all us fans!
The creators of Code Lyoko recently shared that a sequel is in development, though rights issues have been a major hurdle preventing its return until now. According to one of the co-creators, writing has already begun! While securing funding and resolving these legal matters is taking time, they’re working with the original team – including Tania Palumbo and Thomas Romain – which is exciting news for longtime fans who have waited years for a continuation of the series. An official release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Code Lyoko’s Big Return
If you haven’t seen Code Lyoko, this animated show was unique for its time! It mixed traditional hand-drawn animation with computer-generated imagery, which was pretty groundbreaking when it first aired in 2003. The series ran for four seasons and included nearly one hundred episodes before finishing up in 2008. You can currently watch Code Lyoko on Amazon Prime Video, and many episodes are also available on the show’s official YouTube channel. Here’s how the creators describe it:
Meet Jeremy, Odd, Yumi, and Ulrich – four students who live a double life! They’re ordinary boarding school students on Earth, but they also fight to save both our world and a virtual universe called Code Lyoko from a dangerous virus named X.A.N.A. They’re joined by Aelita, a virtual being who lives in Lyoko. A new series is currently in development, but the story is still a secret. The original series had a conclusive ending, so it will be fascinating to see what direction the creators take the franchise in next.
