While Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 are known for family-friendly games, they’re also becoming surprisingly popular for horror titles. The Switch 2’s improved power allows for more immersive horror experiences, and developers are paying attention. A highly-rated horror game is coming to the new handheld, just in time for Halloween! Fans will be able to enjoy a better, complete version of this classic game from Bloober Team.
Bloober Team recently shared updates on their games, with the biggest news being a new version of *Layers of Fear* called *The Final Masterpiece Edition*. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, the developers are hoping to launch it in 2025. Fans are eager to learn more about what changes and improvements this new edition will include.
I’m a huge fan of *Layers of Fear* because it really gets into your head – it’s not about cheap scares, but a truly unsettling atmosphere. The way the house changes around you and the dreamlike environments are incredible, and it always feels like you’re losing your grip on reality. If the *Final Masterpiece Edition* looks as good as I hope on the Nintendo Switch 2, those already creepy elements are going to be absolutely terrifying!
Bloober Team has been on a roll recently. While their horror games have always been well-liked, they gained even more attention after working on the *Silent Hill 2* remake. Their latest game, *Cronos: The New Dawn*, has also been a hit with players. Plus, they’re teaming up with Konami again to remake the original *Silent Hill*, which suggests a very promising future for the studio.

So, Bloober Team had a bunch of news alongside the *Layers of Fear* update. Bad news first: *I Hate This Place*, the horror game from their team at Broken Mirror Games, is getting pushed back – it’ll now be out on January 29th, 2026. But it’s not all delays! They also announced two new games, *Project F* and *Project M*, both coming sometime in 2026. And if you’re a VR fan, get ready for *Star Trek: Infection*, a survival horror game hitting VR on December 11th. Lots to look forward to, even if we have to wait a bit for some of it!
It’s now common for games to get expanded, definitive editions, like the one released for *Layers of Fear*. When new gaming consoles come out, developers often update older games to reach a wider audience and utilize the improved technology. This practice is a great way to both preserve classic games and enhance them. With so many reboots and remakes happening, carefully updating a game can celebrate its history and offer a fresh experience for players, rather than starting over completely.
