Many great shows don’t get the attention they deserve, and Continuum is a perfect example. This Canadian series is a hidden gem, especially for fans of time travel stories like Back to the Future, 12 Monkeys, or even the Avengers: Endgame plotline. Like those stories, Continuum centers around a character stuck in the past, trying to prevent a catastrophic future.
The series takes place in a future where the United States has taken over Canada. A terrorist group called Liber8 uses time travel to go back to 2012, but accidentally brings police officer Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) with them. Now stuck in the past, Cameron is determined to find the members of Liber8 and stop the terrible events that will happen in her future. Here’s a more detailed look at the story:
Detective Kiera Cameron is a police officer from 2077 who grew up depending on technology. She finds herself stranded in present-day Vancouver along with a dangerous group of criminals called Liber8. Kiera must stop Liber8 from destroying the corporations that will eventually dominate the future – and thereby save her own time. She teams up with a brilliant teenage hacker, Alec Sadler, to find a way back to 2077, and works alongside Vancouver police detective Carlos Fonnegra to monitor Liber8. Despite their differing viewpoints and backgrounds, Kiera and Carlos learn to trust each other, and Kiera begins to rely on her own instincts as well.

Simon Berry, who created Warrior Nun, also developed Continuum. Like Warrior Nun, which was recently canceled by Netflix, Continuum ended before many fans felt it had run its course. The show built a following over its four seasons, and even received perfect reviews leading into its final season, which was given advance warning that it needed to conclude the storyline.
The show ended on a strong note, with both critics and audiences giving it scores of 88% and 86% respectively. Even though it went off the air ten years ago, you can still watch all four seasons for free on streaming services like Plex and Pluto TV. Because it’s a shorter series, it’s easy to binge-watch, and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing the story has a complete ending without any frustrating loose ends.
