When people talk about the best action RPGs, the ability to make impactful choices is often what sets the truly great ones apart. Now, Remedy aims to take that even further with Control Resonant, building on the original Control by adding more significant character progression and choices that really matter.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, creative director Mikael Kasurinen explained that the open-world version of Manhattan in the game is packed with secrets, optional stories, and different ways to play—all content that feels purposeful. He also emphasized that the game will continue to be an action RPG with a focus on character progression and impactful decisions, allowing players to create unique character builds.
We’re not simply trying to make a game in a new genre; we want to create something unique that embodies Remedy’s style. Control was a good start, and now we’re prepared to take an even bigger step forward.
It’s well known that Resonant is connected to the broader Remedy universe – the developers have even called it their most ambitious expansion of that universe so far. However, the exact nature of that connection is still unclear. Given that both previous Control and Resonant featured crossovers with Alan Wake, could we see other Remedy franchises like Quantum Break appear as well?
It’s hard to say what will happen, but I’m still pondering that detail about difficult “choices.” Remedy mentioned Dylan facing some truly impossible decisions that will determine humanity’s future. Maybe these choices will connect to the “branching missions” and lead to different endings. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Okay, so everyone’s been hyped for Control Resonant, and it’s still on track to come out later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. There was some talk in an investor report about a release in Q2 2026, but Remedy’s Thomas Puha just said that was all just speculation – so don’t hold your breath for that date! We’re still hoping for a release this year, though.
