Crunchyroll is currently streaming new episodes of a particularly debated anime this spring, and it seems the creators are planning to release an uncensored version of its most controversial episode. While the spring 2026 anime season features many returning favorites, one series is receiving a lot of criticism, especially as its source material has progressed.
The anime Rent-a-Girlfriend has faced numerous controversies, and the lead-up to its fifth season was no different. Initially intended as a continuation of the fourth season, a delay turned it into a separate, full fifth season. The most recent episode finally adapted a particularly infamous set of images from the manga, which had been widely discussed and joked about online. An uncensored version of this episode will be released in Japan later this summer.
Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 5 to Release Uncensored Version of Episode 2

The official channels for Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 5 have announced a special version of episode 2 – “Kazuya’s Full-On Delusion ver.” – will be included with the Blu-ray release in Japan later this year. Currently, it’s unclear if this version will be available outside of Japan, and it will likely be exclusive to the Blu-ray. However, even this small addition is exciting for fans, who have been eagerly waiting for this part of the story to be animated.
Season 4 of Rent-a-Girlfriend began adapting the Hawaiians Arc from the original manga, and fans were especially anticipating one specific moment for Kazuya. However, it wasn’t a moment fans were excited for – it’s actually considered a low point in the story. Many fans see this scene as the beginning of a decline in the manga’s quality, and watching the episode makes it clear why.
What’s Even Going on in Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 5?
Season 5 of Rent-a-Girlfriend keeps the central question of whether Kazuya and Chizuru will get together going, but it does finally start to reveal the truth about their fake relationship to their friends and family. Even with these developments, the story continues at a slow pace with no clear path toward a romantic connection between the two leads.
Episode 5 features a particularly low point for Kazuya, where he’s visibly upset and aroused by the thought of Chizuru being with someone else, and breaks down crying. This moment has become a defining image of his character’s helplessness, and many viewers feel the series never quite regained its footing afterward, despite the manga’s continued success.
