The new crime series, Cooper & Fry, is adapted from the popular novels by Stephen Booth and stars Robert James-Collier and Mandip Gill as the lead detectives.
The show centers on DC Ben Cooper, a police officer working in the countryside of Derbyshire. He’s partnered with DC Diane Fry, a highly effective detective who arrives from Leeds, and the reasons for her transfer are initially unclear.
At first, the two officers clashed due to their different policing styles. However, as they teamed up to investigate a body discovered on a farm, they gradually began to understand each other.

Robert James-Collier as DC Ben Cooper
DC Ben Cooper is a police officer with the Derbyshire police force. He’s working with a new partner, Diane Fry, and is responsible for training her in the specifics of policing rural areas.
You might recognize Robert James-Collier from shows like Coronation Street and Downton Abbey. He’s also appeared in The Level, Ackley Bridge, Fate: The Winx Saga, The Inheritance, The Long Shadow, and Generation Z, plus the film The Ritual.
Mandip Gill as DC Diane Fry
Detective Diane Fry is a skilled police officer who moves from Leeds to Derbyshire, but the reasons for her transfer are unclear. She’s used to working in a city and now has to adapt to policing a more rural area.
You probably recognize Mandip Gill from her role as Yasmin Khan in Doctor Who. She’s also been in shows like Hollyoaks, Suspicion, Curfew, and Big Lizard.
Charlotte Bradley as Isobel Cooper
Who is Isobel Cooper? Isobel is Ben’s mother.
You might recognize Charlotte Bradley from her work in several TV shows and movies. She’s appeared in series like Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, Proof, Titanic: Blood and Steel, Darklands, The Dry, Borderline, and Artic Circle, and has also been in films including Love & Rage and The Gift.
Lorcan Cranitch as DI Paul Hitchens
Who is DI Paul Hitchens? Paul the Detective Inspector at the station and Cooper and Fry’s boss.
You might recognize Lorcan Cranitch from a variety of TV shows and films. He’s appeared in popular series like Cracker, Ballykissangel, Spooks, The Bill, Rome, Penny Dreadful, Fortitude, Death in Paradise, and The Crown, as well as films including Love, Rosie and The Dig. More recently, he’s been in shows like Bloodlands, Magpie Murders, Silent Witness, Blue Lights, and Leonard and Hungry Paul, and the film Trespasses.
Barry O’Connor as DS Todd Eland
Who is DS Todd Eland? Todd is a detective sergeant who works alongside Cooper and Fry.
You might recognize Barry O’Connor from his appearances in popular shows like Neighbours, Inspector George Gently, Game of Thrones, Red Rock, Dublin Murders, Shetland, Ellis, and Outlander. He’s also been in the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.
Niamh McCann as Tracey Garnett
Who is Tracey Garnett? Tracey is a member of the police team working alongside Cooper and Fry.
You might recognize Niamh McCann from her appearances in TV shows like River City, Little Roy, The House Across the Street, The Teacher, The Listeners, and Sherlock & Daughter.
Clara Simpson as Dr Juliana Taylor
Dr. Juliana Taylor is a forensic scientist who frequently helps Cooper and Fry with their cases.
You might recognize Clara Simpson from her appearances in shows like Research Unit, The Reunion, and Parlement.
