Coronation Street 2025 Christmas preview: Gail Platt icon returns amid a tragic death and brutal assault

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but not for the residents of Coronation Street!

Things never seem to go to plan for the residents of Weatherfield, and this year is no exception.

The Platts are happy to see Gail (Helen Worth) back, even if it’s just on a video call. Meanwhile, Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), the leader of the Driscoll family, is secretly scheming against Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley).

Secrets are exposed, tensions rise, and someone is assaulted in the ginnel.

The Websters are devastated by a recent loss. Meanwhile, Billy Mayhew begins to suspect that Todd Grimshaw is being abused by his partner, Theo Silverton.

Here’s a look at everything happening on the cobbles this festive period…

Coronation Street Christmas 2025 preview

1. Maggie Driscoll’s meddling leads to a shocking assault in the ginnel

Lots of drama is unfolding at the Rovers Return! Eva is struggling with a secret she’s been keeping, while her daughter, Susie, really wants a brother or sister for Christmas.

Maggie, a difficult mother-in-law, is determined to cause trouble. After discovering a secret letter and witnessing a close moment between Eva and her former boyfriend Adam, she schemes to reveal everything during the family’s Thanksgiving dinner.

There’s a lot going on at that table! Adam and Alya are attending, along with Daniel and his new girlfriend, Megan. This has upset Will, who’s been secretly dating his personal trainer.

There’s a showdown on the way, some shocking gifts, and a good old festive punch up. Bring it on!

A fight breaks out in the alleyway after one of the Driscolls is thrown out of the pub.

2. The walls close in on Becky Swain amid Swarla’s separation

Lisa and Carla won’t be sharing a mistletoe kiss this year because they’ve broken up. Becky is now firmly established in the picture.

Costello remains in the hospital, and while his condition is slowly improving, Becky is resorting to increasingly drastic tactics to prevent him from revealing information. Meanwhile, Carla is sharing glamorous photos from her new life in Lanzarote, but it’s unclear if everything she’s presenting online is genuine.

Now that Lisa and Betsy are easily controlled, Becky is determined to create the ideal Christmas for them. However, will her plans go smoothly, or will everything fall apart?

Her web of lies is rapidly unravelling, and Kit is determined to find out what’s going on.

3. A shock death in the Webster family

Debbie’s about to get married, but her bachelorette party takes a dark turn when a sudden death rocks her family, the Websters. Carl is heartbroken, and Debbie is hiding a secret that could ruin everything.

Feeling down, he goes to the pub and quickly gets caught up in another risky encounter with James, which threatens to reveal their secret relationship. Will Abi find out what’s going on?

4. Todd Grimshaw is lonely this Christmas

Todd is deeply unhappy, feeling cut off from his family during what should be a celebratory period. He’s devastated by Theo’s increasingly controlling actions and ends up abandoned, cold, and alone after a birthday celebration.

Billy suspects something isn’t right and is starting to figure it out. As midnight approaches, he tries to warn Todd about Theo’s deceptive nature. But a surprising twist throws everything into chaos…

5. Sally Metcalfe plans a special moment for Joanie and Shanice Michaelis

The Metcalfes really want Joanie and Shanice to enjoy themselves, understanding that life was likely quite different when the girls were living with Mick and Lou.

The girls are upset about not being able to see their mother, who is in prison, but Sally has a sweet idea to cheer them up.

6. Gail Chadwick’s Christmas message

Helen Worth is reprising her role after a year away, in a special cameo on Christmas Day.

Okay, so I was watching this movie, and Gail, she’s living in France with her husband Jesse – John Thomson plays him, by the way – and she’s doing a video call with her family for the holidays. Honestly, it made me think, who even needs the King’s Christmas message when you’ve got family connections like that?
