Dame Maureen Lipman is set to return to Coronation Street after a planned break.
Since 2018, the actress portraying Tyrone Dobbs’s grandma Evelyn Plummer, Alan Halsall’s on-screen grandmother (on the soap opera), revealed her intention to temporarily step away from the show during the summer of last year.
Lipman once stated that he would temporarily step away and later return. He clarified that this was not a matter of him leaving permanently, but rather taking some time off to enjoy life a bit more.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the remarkable actress, now 79 years young, has just recently accepted a proposal from her beloved partner, David Turner. And here’s an exciting twist: she’s gracing the stage once more at Richmond Theatre’s annual pantomime!
At that point, Lipman had comforted fans by stating that her character wouldn’t meet an end on the show, leaving a possibility for her comeback in the future.
Instead, Evelyn decided to study law and was last seen looking for accommodation.

According to the latest news from The Sun, she is expected to return to the cobbles relatively quickly. However, it seems her return may not be permanent, but more of an occasional visit.
Fans of Corrie will be delighted to hear that Evelyn is set to return soon, as there have been several key character departures in recent months, such as Daisy Midgeley (played by Charlotte Jordan) and Eileen Grimshaw (portrayed by Sue Cleaver). It’s rumored that more characters might be leaving as well.
It’s been announced that two prominent actors, Jodie Prenger as Glenda Shuttleworth and Sam Robertson as Adam Barlow, have recently renewed their contracts for the ITV soap, securing their continued presence on the cobbles.
