Coronation Street’s Pauline McLynn reveals Maggie’s second son who might turn up on cobbles

The Driscoll family hasn’t visited the Rovers Return yet, but when they do, they’re sure to cause some trouble on Coronation Street.

Eva, played by Catherine Tyldesley, is arriving on Coronation Street with her husband Ben (Aaron McCusker), their children, and Ben’s difficult mother, Maggie (Pauline McLynn). However, there’s a hidden side to this family that viewers will soon discover!

Maggie has two sons, though I’ve only met one of them so far, according to McLynn. Whether or not the other son will appear on the show depends on the storyline, but McLynn highlighted that family dynamics and community relationships are central to the show’s appeal.

When asked about playing her strong-willed character, McLynn confessed she hadn’t known much about Maggie beforehand, but she’s since gotten to understand the character fully.

I heard she’s a very charismatic person who’s good with people,” McLynn said. “Of course, families always have their complexities, and it’s possible things could become difficult for them all at some point…

Being at the pub gives Maggie the opportunity to meet new people, and McLynn is pleased about that.

She described the setting as a fantastic home for her character, explaining that the show has a lovely tradition of established actors welcoming newcomers. She specifically recalled Barbara Knox offering a kind of blessing when she joined the cast.

She told me I would be okay, and I was so happy! I just had to focus and not fumble the basketball while standing in front of Rita.

One memorable scene involves Tracy Barlow causing trouble at the pub. Afterwards, Maggie surprisingly admits she has a soft spot for Tracy, suggesting she recognizes a bit of herself in her rebellious behavior.
