For the longest time, fans have been waiting for God of War veteran Cory Barlog’s new game.
Today, along with revealing God of War’s Laufey, Santa Monica Studio announced he’s taking on a new position: Head of Creative.
Ariel Lawrence, a longtime member of the God of War team, is now the Game Director for the next installment. This means Cory Barlog, instead of leading a game directly, will now be a supervisor, guiding the overall direction of the God of War series.
Writing on X (or Twitter), the studio clarified:
Cory leads the creative direction at Santa Monica Studio. He collaborates with game directors, such as Ariel Lawrence, to shape the overall vision for future games in the series.
Some fans might be sad to hear Barlog isn’t leading a new game right away, but his influence is clearly visible in ‘Laufey,’ and I expect he’s already planning the next project in the series after Faye’s story.
Barlog is incredibly skilled, so this new position seems like a perfect fit for him. Considering all he’s done with the series, I can’t imagine anyone else doing a better job.
