Netflix subscribers don’t have much time left to watch what many consider the most controversial romantic comedy of the 2010s. The film was a big success when it came out in 2018, earning $239 million globally, so now’s the time to see it before it’s removed from the streaming service.
The popular movie Crazy Rich Asians will no longer be available on Netflix after January 1, 2026. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film was notable for its largely Asian cast and demonstrated that comedies featuring diverse actors can be very successful. The movie stars Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong, among others.
Crazy Rich Asians Is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes
Critics loved Crazy Rich Asians, giving it a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This means over 90% of critics gave the film positive reviews. It currently has a 91% score from critics and a 76% audience score on the site.
The movie Crazy Rich Asians is praised for its positive portrayal of Asian characters and its successful use of humor. Although most viewers loved it, some criticized how it showed Asian culture and who was cast in the roles. Even with these disagreements, the film was a big success, exceeding expectations at the box office.
Crazy Rich Asians TV Series in the Works
After the huge success of Crazy Rich Asians, talk of a sequel started as early as 2018, right after the first movie came out. Director Jon M. Chu has stated that making a sequel depends on being able to reunite the original cast.
Chu stated he’ll only revive the show if it’s truly worthwhile, emphasizing the high stakes for everyone involved. While there’s still a chance for the series to continue, its future is uncertain following recent events, and it’s unclear if the original actors would be willing to return.
The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians was based on Kevin Kwan’s 2013 novel and featured a cast of established and up-and-coming Asian actors. Constance Wu, known for her role on the ABC show Fresh Off the Boat, and Henry Golding, who was making his major Hollywood debut, led the cast.
