He confirmed how production is going and explained where the new season will fit into the overall DCU plan.
James Gunn gives Creature Commandos Season 2 release date update
James Gunn shared an update on Creature Commandos, letting fans know that Season 2 is actively being made. When a fan asked about new episodes, Gunn explained they’re working on animating the season now. He also confirmed the new season will happen after the events of Peacemaker Season 2.
As a huge DC fan, I was so excited to finally see the DCU kick off with Creature Commandos Season 1! It ran from December 5th, 2024, to January 9th, 2025, and it was a wild ride. The season ended with The Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, taking charge of Task Force M. It was great to see some familiar faces like Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Weasel and G.I. Robot (both Sean Gunn!), and even King Shark from The Suicide Squad. Plus, they introduced some awesome new characters like Nosferata and Khalis. I can’t wait to see where they go from here!
DC Studios announced a second season in December 2024, and production began around June 2025. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, because animated shows take a long time to make, a launch in 2027 seems probable. The first season took nearly two years – 23 months – from announcement to release.
Based on when Peacemaker Season 2 takes place, it seems like some time has passed since the events of Creature Commandos Season 1, which happened before both Superman and Peacemaker’s stories began. This timing could connect to the DC Comics storyline ‘Salvation Run,’ where the government sends people with superpowers to another dimension.
James Gunn shared that Zac Efron approved the use of his image in the show, stating he was thankful for Efron’s permission. Gunn hasn’t revealed any further casting news or release dates for the second season or other DC Universe projects.
