What Is Criminal Minds: Evolution About?

Criminal Minds: Evolution is a continuation of the original Criminal Minds series. Although CBS canceled the show in 2020, Paramount+ brought it back in 2021 as Criminal Minds: Evolution, picking up the story with what was originally planned as Season 16.

As a huge fan of the show, I was completely hooked by the latest season! It picked up six months after that shocking attack on Elias Voit – you know, the Sicarius Killer – and things just spiraled from there. His followers, stirred up on the dark web, started causing chaos nationwide. The BAU team found themselves in this impossible position of having to work with Voit, even though he was clearly playing his own game, to try and stop the killings. It was a really tense and unsettling setup.

Paramount+ has ordered another season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, and Tanya Giles, the network’s head of programming, expressed excitement about continuing the show’s complex storylines for its dedicated audience. She noted the series consistently performs well on the streaming platform, and viewers have responded positively to the more connected, ongoing narrative. According to Giles, there are still plenty of shocking developments ahead for the BAU team, and Paramount+ is eager to share them with fans.

As a huge fan of the Criminal Minds franchise, I’m excited to see Criminal Minds: Evolution is being brought to us by 20th Television and CBS Studios. It’s fantastic that Erica Messer, who’s been involved with both the original series and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, is leading the charge as showrunner and executive producer. She’s joined by a great team of executive producers, including Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon, which gives me a lot of confidence in the new season.
