Currently, Crismon Desert is the top-selling game across Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. After a long wait and several delays, this large-scale, open-world RPG launched last week. While reviews are a bit varied, the game is still incredibly popular and is projected to be one of the year’s best-sellers. The developers at Pearl Abyss have announced they’re working on updates to fix performance issues and bugs, and they’ve also committed to removing some content that proved to be controversial, stating it was included by mistake.
Pearl Abyss, the South Korean game developer, has stated that AI-generated assets were mistakenly included in their game and are being removed. These assets were originally used as temporary placeholders during the early development of Crimson Desert, with the intention of replacing them before release. Unfortunately, some of this content wasn’t caught and made it into the final version of the game.
Crimson Desert Developer Apologizes
The game’s official X account posted a statement apologizing for recent mistakes. They’re now carefully checking all in-game items and will replace anything that was incorrect. These updates will be included in future game patches. They’re also working on improving their internal procedures to be more open and consistent with player communication going forward.

It’s actually fairly common to find temporary, or ‘placeholder,’ assets still included in the final game. These often get overlooked during the process of developers replacing them with finished versions. Sometimes, these placeholders aren’t even noticed because they weren’t created using AI, so they don’t stand out as much as AI-generated assets would.
Pearl Abyss, the team behind Crimson Desert, hasn’t said exactly when they’ll remove the AI-generated content, but they believe the fix is simple and should be included in one of the next few updates.
