Crimson Desert Devs Are Already Working On Their Next Game (And It Looks a Lot Different)

Following a lot of anticipation, Pearl Abyss released their open-world action adventure game, Crimson Desert, on March 19th. While opinions are divided – some players love it, others find it a bit disappointing – the game has been commercially successful and maintains a strong player base on Steam. Just over a week after launch, Pearl Abyss is already announcing their next game, which appears to be a departure from what they’ve done before.

Pearl Abyss, the team behind the popular game Black Desert, is now focusing more on their upcoming game, DokeV. While Crimson Desert shares a similar art style and feel with Black Desert, DokeV is a departure from those games. Both Crimson Desert and DokeV are open-world games, but that’s where their similarities end. Pearl Abyss announced both titles around the same time, but they’re taking different approaches with DokeV.

DokeV Development Reportedly Full Speed Ahead as Pearl Abyss Shifts Focus from Crimson Desert

If you’ve been keeping up with Pearl Abyss, you probably know about DokeV. Originally announced in 2019, this game stands out with its unique cartoon style, which is quite different from Black Desert and Crimson Desert. It started as a mobile game but later evolved into a full open-world RPG, showcased in a trailer in late 2021. Since then, updates have been quiet as Pearl Abyss focused on Crimson Desert. Now, it seems the team is changing direction to accelerate development on their next project.

Okay, so now that Crimson Desert is finally here, it sounds like things are going to speed up with DokeV! They’re building it using the same engine as Crimson Desert, which is awesome because the team already knows how everything works. But honestly, we still don’t have a release date or a really good idea of where DokeV is at in development. Pearl Abyss is hoping they can really focus on it now and give us a solid update by the end of 2026, so fingers crossed!

Currently, DokeV stands out visually from other games made by Pearl Abyss. It has a bright, anime-inspired art style with adorable characters and creatures set in a contemporary world. The trailer showed off character customization options – a feature that wasn’t in Crimson Desert – and gave us a glimpse of the creatures players can collect and fight with. While it’s likely to be compared to Pokémon, DokeV also has a lot in common with Digimon, particularly in how the creatures and the characters’ gadgets are designed.

It’s been quiet since the last trailer for the game in 2021, so many details remain unknown. However, considering the large open world created for Crimson Desert, the map size could be a key feature of DokeV as well. It seems Pearl Abyss is eager to start fully developing its next big project, meaning we’ll likely receive updates on DokeV soon.
