Crimson Desert Guide – How To Unlock And Use Abyss Cores/Gears

Abyss Cores are special items in Crimson Desert that you can add to your weapons and armor to unlock new abilities. You’ll work with witches in each region to manage these cores – they can install them, remove them, or even create new slots for them on your gear.

This guide explains how to unlock and use Abyss Cores in Crimson Desert, and how to add them to your equipment.

How To Unlock Abyss Cores

You’ll find Abyss Cores throughout the game, but you can’t actually use them until after Chapter 5, during the ‘Witch of Wisdom’ questline. That’s when they become available for socketing.

How To Use Abyss Cores

To add Abyss Cores to your equipment, talk to a witch and choose the ‘Embed Abyss Core’ option. You’ll see a list of your gear at the bottom of the screen, showing any existing sockets. Different items can hold different numbers of cores, and sometimes you’ll need to unlock all available slots before you can add them.

You can choose to collect Abyss Cores to get even better ones, or to obtain improved gear using the Cores you already have.

Note that all Abyss Cores are not compatible with every type of item.

How To Add More Sockets

If you want to add more Abyss Cores to an item that doesn’t have enough empty slots, you can use the Create Socket function. This costs Silver, and the price increases with each socket added. Adding the maximum of five sockets will cost a total of 105 Silver.

  • 1st socket: 5 Silver
  • 2nd socket: 10 Silver
  • 3rd socket: 20 Silver
  • 4th socket: 30 Silver
  • 5th socket: 40 Silver

Note that different types of equipment have a maximum number of sockets possible:

  • Head: 1
  • Torso: 3
  • Gloves: 2
  • Boots: 2
  • Ranged Weapons: 5
  • Two-Handed Weapons: 5
  • One-Handed Weapons: 3
  • Off-Hand Equipment: 2

Some items, like cloaks, rings, earrings, and necklaces, cannot be fitted with sockets.
