Crimson Desert Revives One of Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s Most Notorious NPC Annoyances

After spending over 150 hours exploring Crimson Desert, I’m still finding new and surprising things – things I didn’t even think were possible! It really pushes the limits of what open-world games can do, offering more variety, interaction, and freedom than anything I’ve experienced before. I’m curious if The Elder Scrolls 6 will change that when it eventually comes out, but for now, Crimson Desert sets the standard. While the game constantly surprises me, I’ve noticed one consistent thing since the beginning that I’ve tried to overlook. It doesn’t bother me too much, but it’s reminiscent of a similar issue I had with the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance back in 2018.

Crimson Desert shares a lot in common with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, especially the way it makes you learn skills before you can actually use them. Beyond that, both games feature a world that reacts to your actions, offer very little guidance, and boast huge, open environments ripe for exploration. There’s also a funny quirk with the characters – they overreact to even the smallest interactions, making you feel like you’re constantly disrupting their lives. It’s amusing, but it strongly reminded me of playing the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Crimson Desert’s NPCs Hate Being Bumped Into, Almost as Much as KCD’s

Playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance when it first launched in 2018 felt very different from playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 now. The sequel features a much bigger world and improves upon many of the original game’s systems, making it more accessible to new players. The first game was a bit rough around the edges and demanded a lot of commitment from players; it didn’t hold your hand. It had unique quirks and even bugs that, surprisingly, added to the experience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s NPCs Would Get Angry at You for Touching Them Even Slightly

I distinctly remember how the characters in Kingdom Come: Deliverance first reacted to me. It wasn’t just simple greetings or comments about how I smelled. Whenever I accidentally bumped into someone, they acted like I was intentionally being awful – like a crazed, aggressive person who enjoyed physically assaulting others.

I found the passive-aggressive remarks from characters – things like “Are you blind?” or “Have you gone mad?” – so funny that I almost deliberately tried to annoy everyone around me. The guards were particularly annoyed by my clumsy wandering and even threatened to throw me in jail if I didn’t pay attention to where I was going. While this kind of thing isn’t unusual in open-world games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, it was so frequent and over-the-top that someone created a mod to make the characters less sensitive to being bumped into – and that really was the core problem.

The Kingdom Come: Deliverance mod, called “NPCs complain less when bumped,” was created by BlacRyu.

Soon after Kingdom Come: Deliverance came out, my friends and I spent weeks playfully acting like the game’s characters whenever we met in the game. We realized how easily we could annoy them, and even though it sometimes broke the feeling of being immersed in the game, we had a lot of fun with it. I mention this because the problem was noticeable even before it became widely discussed.

I don’t recall Warhorse Studios ever confirming a fix, but I remember one day the game suddenly felt much easier to navigate. The NPCs stopped being so reactive to my clumsy movements, and the streets were noticeably calmer. It was much easier to get around without constantly bumping into people and hearing complaints. I’m not sure if the developers did anything, but it definitely felt like they had. Strangely, I almost missed the challenge of avoiding everyone’s disapproval!

Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s NPCs Have Followed Me Into Crimson Desert’s Pywel

I have to say, I’m really getting a kick out of Crimson Desert, but man, do the NPCs hate me! It reminds me so much of Kingdom Come: Deliverance – if anything, they seem even more annoyed with me in this game. It’s already tricky navigating towns with so many people around, but Pearl Abyss really went the extra mile to make everyone react negatively to me. Seriously, even the kids in Crimson Desert think I’m a villain if I accidentally bump into them while heading to the butcher! It’s hilarious, honestly.

NPCs react to me differently depending on how much I rough them up in the game. Some get angry and threaten me, while others politely ask what’s wrong. It’s funny because I once accidentally bumped into a kid while playing Crimson Desert, and they called me the bad guy – it’s a pretty low standard, honestly! I always put my shopping cart back, so I don’t feel too bad if I occasionally bump into someone on the way.

Even Crimson Desert‘s kids think I’m evil when I trip over them on my way to see the butcher.

I’m not sure if other fans of Kingdom Come: Deliverance have experienced this in Crimson Desert, or if the developers at Pearl Abyss are even aware of it, but I’ve noticed a frustrating pattern. It’s not a game-breaking problem, but after playing for over 150 hours, it’s starting to bother me. Exploring towns feels like a difficult game of Minesweeper – you’re constantly worried about accidentally triggering trouble. I’m happy the developers are addressing bigger issues, but I hope they’ll consider fixing this eventually. For now, I’m just dealing with it by riding over people with my horse!
