The core of Monster Hunter is, unsurprisingly, hunting monsters. While Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection tries to add a unique twist to the formula, you’ll still be doing a lot of monster hunting. The difference is, now there are monsters that hunt other monsters, too.
Defeating Invasive Monsters can be challenging, like solving a puzzle. But if you fight them again, you’ll earn even better rewards called Invasive Materials.
What Are Invasive Materials?

Crafting every weapon and set of armor in the game needs materials. At first, you’ll only need items from the monster you’re trying to create gear from, but as you progress and aim for better equipment, you’ll need materials from a wider variety of monsters.
Some items, like those dropped by powerful end-game monsters, will need Invasive Materials to create. These materials aren’t dropped by specific monsters; instead, you get them by defeating any of the Invasive Monsters in their lairs.
To craft the best weapons and armor, you’ll need to defeat Invasive Monsters and collect the special materials they drop.
How To Get Invasive Materials
You only get Invasive Materials by defeating Invasive Monsters – it’s a key part of what makes them special. While you might occasionally get a material from your first fight with one, it’s uncommon. Usually, you’ll need to fight them again to obtain these materials.
Once you drive an Invasive Monster back, it stays hidden inside its den and you can fight it again whenever you want. However, it’s meant to be a really tough opponent for when you’re further into the game.
Even after you defeat an Invasive Monster, it will reappear. This means you can keep defeating it repeatedly to collect more Invasive Materials.
The main problem is that defeating Invasive Monsters doesn’t always give you Invasive Materials. They can drop the monster’s regular items instead, so you might defeat one and not receive any of the special materials. It really comes down to luck.
It’s most efficient to focus on defeating a single, easily manageable Invasive Monster repeatedly to gather the materials you need.
Every Invasive Material
Each monster in the game always drops three specific crafting materials that are exclusive to it. While they might drop other items as well, those are generally common and shared with other monsters, so they aren’t considered unique crafting resources.

Invasive Materials aren’t linked to specific monsters, but they’re consistent across all of them. There are three different types, and any Invasive Monster has a chance to drop them. These materials are:
- Invasive Hide – Worth one point in crafting.
- Invasive Claw – Worth two points in crafting.
- Invasive Scale – Worth five points in crafting.
Getting specific items isn’t guaranteed, so it mostly comes down to chance. Expect to do a lot of fighting against Invasive Monsters.
