Crimson Desert is continuing to gain popularity with a new update released today. Pearl Abyss seems happy to keep developing it as long as players are interested – they’ve already surpassed six million sales! However, the game’s story is still its biggest weakness and could prove to be a major hurdle moving forward.
An update with enhancements is planned between now and September, but details are still emerging. Don’t anticipate a complete overhaul of the existing storyline – Pearl Abyss isn’t planning to scrap what’s already there.
Powers stated to IGN at Summer Game Fest that while art is generally a matter of personal opinion – and all viewpoints are valid – they don’t believe they should drastically change the story they’ve created just to satisfy different opinions or reviews. They don’t want to abandon the original vision of the game.
We’re working hard to make sure the story flows smoothly and that cutscenes clearly explain what’s happening, especially for new players. That’s exactly what we aim to achieve with these improvements, and we’re confident it will be a positive change.
It’s always tricky, right? The developers are hearing feedback – some people were confused about why Kliff was doing things at the beginning of the game, or what his real goals were beyond just trying to be a good guy. But they also don’t want to change the main story and how it plays out, which I totally get! They’re walking a fine line between addressing concerns and staying true to their vision.
Early on, some players struggled to connect with the character’s reasons for doing things and felt confused by characters showing up without knowing their place in the story. We can fix this for new players, but it won’t affect the experience of those who’ve already finished the game.
We really wanted to improve the game both for new players and those returning to it. Ultimately, our priority was maintaining fun. We also didn’t want to negatively impact players who joined early on, so we focused on adding content that enhances their existing experience as a reward for being early supporters.
If you’ve finished the game once, playing it again can be really enjoyable and offer new discoveries. However, don’t anticipate significant alterations to the missions or how the story unfolds.
We’ll share more details about what’s coming soon, but in the meantime, Crimson Desert has just been updated! Now you can collect up to 100 pets for your camp – though only 50 can be out exploring at once.
