Crunchyroll Announces Trigun Stargaze Release Date With New Trailer

It’s been a while since fans last saw Vash the Stampede on TV, following the conclusion of Trigun Stampede in 2023. That series reimagined Yatsuhiro Nightow’s classic manga Planet Gunsmoke, making significant changes to the characters and story. Next year, a follow-up anime called Trigun Stargaze will bring back Vash, Meryl, and Wolfwood, and will also reintroduce the beloved character Milly. Along with a new trailer offering a sneak peek at the upcoming story, the release date for Trigun Stargaze has been announced, and it’s coming sooner than many anime fans anticipated.

Fans can revisit the world of Trigun with Trigun Stargaze, a new series from Studio ORANGE that sets up the ultimate showdown between Vash the Stampede and his dangerous brother, Millions Knives. The series premieres on Crunchyroll January 10th, and a recent trailer revealed the release date and a glimpse of the intense battles to come. Crunchyroll describes Vash’s return after a three-year absence: he’s a cheerful pacifist with a mysterious $6 million bounty on his head, puzzling reporter Meryl Stryfe and her partner as they investigate. Their search leads them to a shocking discovery: Vash’s evil twin brother, Millions Knives.

Stampede’s Big Changes

I first encountered Trigun back in 1998 with the original anime by Studio Madhouse, and like a lot of fans, it was my introduction to Vash the Stampede. However, it did deviate from the manga. Now, with Trigun Stampede, I’ve noticed some big changes – not just to Vash himself, but to all the characters, really. Even the trailer for Trigun Stargaze hints at further departures from the source material. With Milly finally being included, I’m especially curious to see how the anime will portray her, and how they’ll handle her relationships with Meryl and Wolfwood.

ORANGE, the animation studio, has consistently stated that Trigun Stargaze will conclude the current Trigun reboot, aiming to finish the story of Vash and Knives in a single season. Although their work on Trigun may be ending, ORANGE is still involved in other significant projects. Next year, they plan to release the final season of Beastars, bringing the complex and sometimes dangerous love story of Legosi and Haru to a close. Known for its use of computer-generated imagery, ORANGE continues to be a leader in bringing fresh and unique visuals to the anime industry.
