Considered a standout in the supernatural action genre, Bungo Stray Dogs started as a manga written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa. It first appeared in Young Ace magazine in 2012, and was later turned into an anime series by Studio Bones. The anime premiered on April 7, 2016, and quickly became popular worldwide. Over the past decade, the series has grown to include five seasons, a movie, and spin-off stories. The most recent season aired in 2023, but a sixth season hasn’t been officially announced yet.
Although the anime hinted at a continuation, the studio hasn’t said anything about a sequel. As fans continue to wait, the anime is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a new website and several planned projects. The anime’s official X account announced that Harukawa will create 35 new illustrations while the manga is paused. The first illustration shows Kyouka surrounded by Atsushi, Akutagawa, Dazai, and Chuuya, and fans can look forward to more updates as this project is just getting started.
What’s Next For Bungo Stray Dogs?

The manga is currently paused after finishing its first major story arc, and there’s no news about when it might continue. The first part of the story featured surprising twists, heartbreaking moments, and exciting fights. Three years ago, the anime adapted everything that was available in the manga, which meant there was nothing left to animate. While the manga does have more story planned, it’s uncertain if the series will return in the future.
Fans can also look forward to the second season of Bungo Stray Dogs Wan, a spin-off series, which will premiere in July as part of the Summer 2026 anime season. The main Bungo Stray Dogs anime series and its film are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll. The manga currently consists of 28 volumes, with 27 translated into English. The release date for the English translation of Volume 28 is still to be announced.
What Is Bungo Stray Dogs About?

The story centers around Atsushi Nakajima, an 18-year-old orphan suddenly expelled from his orphanage without any answers. Left with nowhere to go, he’s on the verge of starvation. While attempting to rob someone out of desperation, he unexpectedly saves Osamu Dazai, who was trying to end his own life.
Atsushi meets Doppo Kunikida, a coworker of Dazai’s, and discovers they both work for the Armed Detective Agency – a famous organization that recruits people with special, supernatural talents. The story follows Atsushi as he develops his own abilities and finds acceptance among his quirky new colleagues.
