Nearly forty years ago, the BBC made a huge mistake by cancelling a fantastic sci-fi show before it could even finish its planned season. While shows get cancelled prematurely all the time, the way this one ended, combined with the continued passion of its fans, makes Star Cops especially beloved.
The show boasted strong credentials, created by Chris Boucher, known for his work on classic sci-fi series like Doctor Who and Blake’s 7. Set in 2027, it followed the International Space Police Force, led by Commander Nathan Spring, and investigated crimes stemming from advancements in technology. Now, Big Finish has revived the series with a new audio sequel, Star Cops: Conflict – Prisoner and Escort. Returning cast members include David Calder as Commander Spring, Linda Newton as Chief Superintendent Kenzy, and Trevor Cooper as Inspector Devis, joined by newcomers Philip Olivier, Hannah Bristow, and Lynsey Murrell.
Star Cops: Conflict Trilogy Continues An Unfairly Canceled Sci-Fi Classic

Following the events of the previous installments, Star Cops: Conflict – Prisoner and Escort puts Inspector Alice Okoro (Lynsey Murrell) at the center of the action. This time, she’s tasked with transporting a prisoner, Mitchell Kane (Homer Todiwala), from Mars, but she soon begins to wonder if he’s actually guilty of the crime he’s accused of.
As a long-time fan, it’s still amazing to me that Big Finish is continuing the story of Star Cops with their Conflict series. They’ve already released three parts, with three more planned for 2026! Considering the original show was cancelled after just nine of its ten episodes aired, it’s incredible that Big Finish has produced more stories in the last eight years than the BBC ever did. The fact that the show was off the air for thirty years before making a comeback with these audio dramas is just…impressive. It’s a real testament to the enduring appeal of Star Cops and Big Finish’s dedication to expanding its universe.
Big Finish Productions revived the Star Cops series in 2018 with the story Mother Earth. They followed this with The Stuff of Life and Star Cops: Mars in 2019. Since then, they’ve released three more substantial story arcs, continuing up to 2024. The latest arc, Conflict, began in early 2026, and will be followed by three more episodes after Prisoner and Escort later this year, starting with part four in September.
With growing interest in Star Cops since the successful audio revival in 2018, a live-action reboot could be a possibility. Hollywood and TV studios often revisit established franchises, and Star Cops already has a dedicated fanbase and recognizable brand.
