Cult Classic Event Horizon Finds New Success With Sequel Series (Check Out Our New Look) [EXCLUSIVE]

Although Event Horizon didn’t receive much attention when it came out in 1997, it’s found a new life through comics. Last year, IDW Publishing released a successful prequel, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, which quickly sold out and required a reprint. Now, IDW’s upcoming sequel series looks promising, and we’ve got a first look at what’s in store.

As a big fan of the original Event Horizon movie, I’m really excited about the new comic series, Event Horizon: Inferno. And it sounds like I’m not alone! IDW has announced that pre-orders for the first issue are already over 30% higher than they were for the prequel, Event Horizon: Dark Descent. Since Dark Descent #1 sold around 100,000 copies, that’s a seriously impressive jump. It’s great to see that even though the movie didn’t get the recognition it deserved when it came out, comic book fans are really embracing the Event Horizon universe. Christian Ward, who also wrote Dark Descent, is back, and with Rob Carey on art, this looks like it’s going to be something special.

Event Horizon: Inferno #1 is a Satisfying and Terrifying Sequel

Two hundred years after the events of the first film, Event Horizon: Inferno follows a rich businessman who sends a fleet of ships to Neptune to recover what’s left of the original Event Horizon. But the crew quickly learns the ship’s experimental drive is still working—and is trying to open a gateway to a terrifying, hellish dimension. The novel is being called a blend of Aliens and Dante’s Inferno, promising a truly unsettling experience.

ComicBook recently previewed Event Horizon: Inferno #1 and awarded it 4.5 out of 5 stars. The comic successfully tells a new story while still feeling connected to the original Event Horizon movie in a meaningful and satisfying way. It introduces a new group of characters and a compelling villain, and even though it’s just the first issue, it expertly sets the stage for a scary and exciting series. It feels like a worthy continuation of the 1997 film, and everything is in place for a truly epic and unsettling sci-fi adventure.
