Director Dan Trachtenberg is discussing a potential return to the popular sci-fi series Cloverfield now that he’s signed a new deal with Paramount Pictures. However, he clarified that the Cloverfield franchise wasn’t the primary motivation behind the agreement.
“It was almost like a, ‘Oh my God, wait,’ when we were talking about stuff, it came up, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, wait a second. I’ve done that. I could, maybe.’ So maybe, and I certainly kept in touch with the folks at Bad Robot and J.J. [Abrams], and we’ve certainly discussed different things over the years, not Cloverfield related,” Trachtenberg explained.
Dan Trachtenberg directed his first feature film as part of the Cloverfield series, working with actors John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a huge success, earning over $110 million worldwide on a $15 million budget, and it received positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
Six years after his first film, Dane Trachtenberg directed Prey, building on that initial success. He’s since directed both Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands, continuing his pattern of achieving great results with well-known science fiction franchises.
What the Future Looks Like for Dan Trachtenberg
In 2025, Trachtenberg revealed his future projects, remembering that after finishing Prey, he had three equally appealing ideas: Badlands, Killer Killers, and another unnamed project. He expressed his excitement at the possibility of working on that third idea.
Trachtenberg shared that he has more ideas for stories within the Predator universe, but he doesn’t intend to focus solely on that franchise. He’s excited about the possibility of continuing with Predator, but also wants to work on films that aren’t necessarily connected to it.
Trachtenberg added that the opportunity has been really exciting, allowing him to create the films he’s always dreamed of. He’d love to continue working within this franchise, and he’s hoping audiences enjoy Badlands and ask for more.
After the successful release of Predator: Badlands and continued positive reviews, director Trachtenberg signed a first-look deal with Paramount. He’s eager to develop original films he’s envisioned for years, and Paramount is excited to collaborate, leveraging their existing popular content as well. While the Predator franchise is doing well, its future direction regarding location and storyline remains uncertain.
