Robert Irwin didn’t let an injury slow him down on Dancing With the Stars.
As a lifestyle expert, I always say preparation is key, but even the best-laid plans can hit a snag! Before taking one last dance on the floor with my amazing partner Witney Carson, I revealed I actually tweaked a rib while rehearsing our quickstep to Jet’s ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl?’ It all happened while getting ready for the season 34 finale of the show, but we pushed through! It’s a testament to dedication and a little bit of adrenaline, honestly.
He explained in a recent video that he’s been experiencing rib pain due to tight muscles between his ribs. This pain has been gradually worsening, and it’s been particularly problematic because the dance routine requires a lot of core and rib control.
Despite the challenges, the couple gave a fantastic performance. Judge Derek Hough, who had selected the dance, even declared Robert the “quickstep king.”
He enthusiastically praised the performance, saying it was sharp, polished, and that the performer moved beautifully across the floor, highlighting the strength of their technique.
Leading up to their performance, Robert was really struggling with his injury. In a TikTok video posted on November 24th, his partner Witney admitted they were both having a tough time, saying, “We’re kind of falling apart right now.”
Robert’s been having a lot of rib pain,” she explained. “We’ve had to adjust our plans because of his injury. Honestly, the biggest challenge right now is just getting everything coordinated and working smoothly. It’s going to take practice and a lot of run-throughs.
That’s why she and Robert—Steve Irwin’s son and Bindi Irwin’s younger brother—practiced late into the night.
Witney said they were among the last to leave the studio last night, explaining that they didn’t leave until it closed at 9 p.m.

Robert is thankful for Witney’s support. He showed his appreciation on the day of the show’s finale by surprising her with roses and a heartfelt note.
In a letter, the Australian wrote that they’d always remember the lessons they learned, and even though things were ending, they’d always be a supporter. They playfully added that, as Irwins, they’re a loyal bunch and will always be there.
Robert added, “Always remember: When in doubt—send it.”
