Dancing With the Stars’ Val Chmerkovskiy Hospitalized During Tour

Val Chmerkovskiy is on the mend.

The dancer posted an update from the hospital after becoming sick right before the start of his Dancing With the Stars tour.

Val revealed in a recent Instagram video, posted on March 2nd, that he’s been experiencing vertigo for the past few days. He explained that he felt it yesterday but was still able to perform, and that he underwent some medical tests following the show.

The 39-year-old explained that traveling on the bus may have exasperated his symptoms.

He explained that once you lose your inner balance – and he’s still figuring things out – it’s very difficult to regain. He described feeling disoriented and out of control, like he was ‘spinning everywhere,’ even to the point where he woke up on the bus feeling unable to compose himself.

I’m hearing great news from Val! Despite a recent setback, he’s staying positive and really hoping to be back dancing soon. His goal is to rejoin the tour in time for the Milwaukee show on March 3rd, and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for him!

“So hopefully tomorrow’s our day off,” he added. “I’ll be back on Tuesday. Love you thank you.”

Val received lots of support after sharing his message, including from Dylan Efron. Dylan commented that he sympathized with Val, explaining that vertigo is terrible and he experienced it himself before Dancing with the Stars. He wished Val a speedy recovery and suggested getting some rest to feel better.

His wife, Jenna Johnson, responded to the comments with heartbroken and crying emojis.

Val, who performed with his Dancing with the Stars partner Alix Earle on the tour, also expressed his regret to fans who were hoping to see him perform live.

He apologized to fans who came to see the show in Peoria, sharing a message on Instagram on March 2nd. He thanked his fellow cast members for their support, and said he’d be back on stage as soon as possible after a minor setback.

He explained that the only thing keeping him from performing was being physically unable to stand. Sadly, he wasn’t well enough to appear tonight.

Before Val begins performing with Dylan, Alix, Jordan Chiles, Robert Irwin, and Witney Carson from season 34—along with guest hosts Andy Richter, Danielle Fishel, and Elaine Hendrix—the show’s official social media account released a statement about his recent health issue.

According to a post on Instagram from March 2nd, he is receiving medical treatment, and his family hopes he gets better quickly.

Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids – non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus – in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her acting role in 12 Years a Slave.

She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, sharing on Instagram that she’d been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman, leading to a lot of silent suffering. It’s something that affects so many of us, yet we often deal with it on our own.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she’d been hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

Someone messaged Suki on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, asking why she hadn’t posted recently. The message jokingly revealed a surprising reason for her silence: she claimed a pair of very tight pants she wore six months ago caused a hernia, and she’s been afraid to mention it.

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery because his appendix was close to rupturing.

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying, “My body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.”

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl to get help, and the pain worsened during a road trip with a friend.

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. To illustrate the extent of the issue, he explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds. Now, he can’t even do a squat or stand on one foot without falling, describing the feeling as if he’d had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting trip when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney quickly helped her, evaluated her injuries, and got her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet came dangerously close to her right eye – less than an inch away.

According to the Kim Possible star, a small piece of something got stuck behind her eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll continue to keep an eye on her condition, but thankfully, her vision is currently normal.

Oh my gosh, she actually said she’s just so thankful to still be here! It completely broke my heart, but in the best way, you know? She was talking about how much she loves her daughters, her husband, her whole family and all her friends. And she said, and I’m not kidding, she saw her life flash before her eyes. It was so powerful! She was begging everyone to just hug the people they love whenever they can because things can change in an instant. I’m seriously tearing up just thinking about it. It’s such a good reminder!

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often harsh nature, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition potentially caused by high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online scrutiny. Fortunately, Amy recently learned she has a form of Cushing syndrome that will resolve on its own, and she’s happy to be healthy.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN, “We feel very fortunate, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although her symptoms briefly subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

It was a really tough year for both Justin and me. Not long after my health scare, Justin revealed he’d been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. It was so frightening to see him struggling – he explained in a video that the virus attacked the nerves in his ear and face, causing paralysis on one side. He couldn’t blink, smile, or even move his nostril on that side, and he even had trouble eating. As a fan, and more importantly, as someone who loves him, it was heartbreaking. Thankfully, after a while, the paralysis started to go away. I remember Hailey sharing on Good Morning America that he was doing really well and feeling much better. It was such a scary and unexpected thing to happen, but we’re all so grateful he’s okay now.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the serious health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, she remembers only darkness, followed by light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, bravely shared her health struggles in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering nonsensically.

Though she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a major bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she’s “at a hundred per cent.”

As a huge supporter of Cori Broadus, I was so relieved to hear she’s doing well! It was scary hearing about her severe stroke back in January 2024, but thankfully her family was right there for her. She told Will Marfuggi from TopMob News that she immediately texted everyone and sent a picture, and they all rushed to help. It ended up being a longer hospital stay than expected because of some existing health concerns – she also deals with lupus and her kidneys were failing. But she’s on the mend now, and says she’s doing great! She had to work on regaining some motor skills, but overall, she’s feeling good, and I’m so happy for her and her family.

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her 20s. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she revealed she experienced hearing loss, debilitating fatigue, and severe stomach pain. She described a confusing process of receiving multiple diagnoses from different doctors. Determined to find answers, Woodley, who has a background in herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers.

This health journey lasted for ten years and also led to emotional challenges. She developed a fear of food due to her stomach pain, which contributed to body image issues and questions about her identity.

Fortunately, after focusing on both her physical and mental well-being, Shailene is now healthy and feeling good. She shared that her health issues have resolved themselves and she is happy to be in a good place.
