Daredevil: Born Again Sets Up Kate Bishop’s Long-Awaited MCU Return

Be warned: This article reveals key plot points from the first episode, “The Northern Star,” of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Proceed with caution if you haven’t watched it yet!

The new season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ started strong, promising plenty of action. The premiere focused on Matt Murdock and Karen Page’s efforts to take down Wilson Fisk, while also revealing how harshly Fisk has ruled as Mayor – particularly his crackdown on vigilantes. This storyline subtly hints at the return of a major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With confirmation that she’ll be back alongside Matt Murdock in the upcoming season, Daredevil: Born Again has hinted at a return for Jessica Jones, implying Matt won’t be the only hero challenging New York’s Mayor. Another hero, who’s only had a brief cameo in the past three years, could also be a valuable ally in this fight.

Kate Bishop quickly became popular with Marvel fans after her introduction in the 2021 series Hawkeye, suggesting a promising future for her character. However, she’s only had a very short appearance since then, despite Hawkeye being a great holiday-themed Marvel show. Because of this, a storyline in season two of Daredevil: Born Again would be a perfect opportunity to bring her back into the action.

The Swordsman’s Unfair Trial Sets The Stage Perfectly For A Kate Bishop Return

Okay, so Kate’s not just a vigilante swinging around New York – she’s got a really personal stake in taking down Kingpin. And things get messy right from the start of season two. Remember the Swordsman from season one? He’s locked up, and it looks like Fisk has a way of manipulating the system. This psychologist, Heather Glenn, is basically working for Fisk now, and she’s rigged his evaluation to make sure the Swordsman loses his case. It’s a clever, and frankly disturbing, way Fisk is expanding his control, and it immediately throws Kate into a really tough situation.

Interestingly, Jack Duquesne, also known as The Swordsman, has been wrongly accused before. This happened previously in the Hawkeye series, where he was introduced as the fiancé of Kate’s mother, Eleanor. Throughout the show, he seemed suspicious, and was arrested in episode four. However, it was later revealed that he was framed and wasn’t guilty of any wrongdoing.

The real culprit turned out to be Kate’s mother, and she was exposed in the final episode, which led Kate to start seeing Jack in a new, more appreciative light. While we haven’t seen what their relationship is like after the Disney+ show, it’s likely Jack has become a stepfather figure to Kate, so his sudden absence would definitely be noticed by the young hero.

She likely knows Kingpin is actively targeting vigilantes, and if she’s realized Jack is the Swordsman, she’d have a strong reason to try and save him. Because of this, news about Daredevil challenging the Mayor might lead her to seek out the main character from Born Again and get involved in the conflict.

Kate Bishop’s History With Kingpin Makes Her Return Even More Logical

Beyond rescuing her stepfather, Kate has a personal connection to Kingpin, making her involvement crucial. While Hawkeye had several villains, Wilson Fisk was the mastermind behind everything, and his confrontation with Kate happened towards the end of the series.

Eleanor Bishop was trying to break away from the criminal Kingpin, but he desperately tried to maintain their partnership. Kate arrived just in time to battle him, defeating him with specialized arrows. She also made sure her mother was arrested for past crimes, which had helped Kingpin run his operations.

Though their encounter was short, Kate now has a strong personal reason to oppose Kingpin and wants him out of office immediately. Similarly, Kingpin will definitely see Kate as a threat and try to stop her, potentially leading her into a dangerous situation with the Swordsman.

This development naturally leads to her return in this storyline. As Kingpin becomes increasingly threatening throughout Daredevil: Born Again, particularly with his expanding influence over New York, it’s logical for Kate to re-engage with him if she wants to continue growing as a hero. It’s a good reason to bring her back to the MCU after her time away.

Kate Bishop Deserves A Chance To Interact With Other Popular Marvel Heroes

Kate Bishop made a strong impression in Hawkeye with her engaging scenes alongside Clint Barton, Jack Duquesne, and Yelena Belova, demonstrating her ability to connect with a variety of characters. Because of this, she’s ready to interact with more heroes and develop a more significant role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe – a return in Daredevil: Born Again or a similar project would be a great way to do that.

As a fan, I’d really love to see Squirrel Girl interact with characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Karen Page. I think she’d be hilarious with them, but also, she’d probably end up in some really intense and dangerous situations. And New York has so many other heroes – imagine a team-up with Spider-Man or Ms. Marvel! That would be awesome.

I was so excited to see Kate Bishop briefly interact with Ms. Marvel in that post-credits scene of The Marvels – it really hinted at how great their chemistry could be! Considering all these New York heroes are probably on Kingpin’s radar, it feels natural that Kate would eventually cross paths with at least one of them. I’m really hoping we get to see more of that interaction soon!

It would be amazing to see all these heroes team up against Wilson Fisk and his task force. It would also really solidify Kate Bishop’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given how well she could fit into future projects, it would be a missed opportunity not to include her in this important storyline.

Could Kate Bishop Make An Appearance In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

Even though the storyline of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 seems perfect for bringing Kate Bishop back, it’s still uncertain if she’ll actually appear. Marvel has surprised fans with big reveals before, but it’s strange that there haven’t been any leaks or rumors if Kate was involved.

While it seems unlikely Kate Bishop will show up in the Daredevil: Born Again series before Luke Cage or Iron Fist, it’s not out of the question. However, we last saw her being asked to join the Young Avengers by Ms. Marvel, which suggests she might have moved away from New York.

It’s puzzling why she hasn’t confronted Kingpin, especially after Jack vanished. However, seeing the trial televised would likely bring her back into the action. A return in season 3 seems doubtful, though, as filming is already underway and Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Kate Bishop, is pregnant and unable to film a guest appearance.

If the conflict between Kingpin and New York’s heroes continues, Kate Bishop could reappear in a future project, potentially linking back to the story of Daredevil: Born Again. This could be a great way to organically unite some of Marvel’s popular street-level heroes. Either way, the Marvel Cinematic Universe would benefit from bringing Kate back soon.
