Spanish source eXtas1s has now “corroborated” the reports of a PS5 price increase on social media.
He says the story is “100% true” and will be officially announced tomorrow, 27th March.
While it’s far from a confirmation, this certainly adds more smoke to the rumours.
Large companies, such as Sony, often release negative announcements on Fridays, hoping they’ll receive less attention over the weekend.
Again, we’ll share more information as and when we get it.
Original Story: A French source believes a PS5 price hike is imminent.
On X (formerly Twitter), the account GyoJvFR is advising people who are thinking of buying a PlayStation to expect a significant price increase soon.
According to his message, prices will increase as follows:
- PS5 Slim
- From €549.99 (~$634) to €649.99 (~$749)
- PS5 Pro
- From €799.99 (~$922) to €899.99 (~$1,038)
- PS Portal
- From €219.99 (~$253) to €249.99 (~$288)
He says the announcement is coming soon, but he doesn’t know exactly when it will take effect. This same source correctly predicted similar price increases for Xbox last year.
I’ve been hearing this rumor, but I haven’t been able to confirm it myself yet. I’m reaching out to Sony to see if they can shed some light on it.
As you’ve likely noticed, the economy is currently facing challenges, and the growing use of artificial intelligence is driving up the cost of essential computer parts, leading to higher prices for everyone.
PlayStation deserves praise for ensuring they have enough consoles available for the remainder of the year. They’ve also stated their plan to continue generating revenue from their current player base to cover rising expenses.
These price increases seem unusually high. Considering the PlayStation 5 originally cost €499.99, this represents a possible €150 increase after five years on the market.
