Summer 2026 at the movies has been full of surprises, with unexpected films consistently outperforming big-budget blockbusters. While low-budget horror movies from new directors have been the recent success story, this time it’s an animated film from overseas that’s become a major hit with American audiences.
As a huge movie fan, I have to say, this Australian film’s performance in the US is incredible! It didn’t just do well, it actually landed in the Top 5 during its opening weekend. Even more surprisingly, it knocked the newest Star Wars movie out of the Top 5! It’s completely shaking up what we usually expect from box office results, and I’m here for it.

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act is an animated web series made by Goosework and produced by the Australian studio Glitch Productions (known for shows like Meta Runner and Murder Drones). The series began in October 2013 and has eight episodes. Episode 9, titled “The Last Act,” concludes the story. It had a limited run in theaters and will be available to stream on YouTube and Netflix starting June 19th.
The show centers around a group of people stuck inside a bizarre virtual reality circus controlled by a glitchy AI called Caine. To cope with their predicament and avoid losing their minds – or turning into digital monsters – they embark on strange and unpredictable adventures. The main characters include Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, Gangle, Kinger, and Zooble.
