Dark Winds Season 4, Episode 7 Ending Explained: What Happened To Leroy Gorman

Okay, buckle up, because the latest episode of Dark Winds threw me for a loop! Seriously, major spoilers ahead for season 4, episode 7. We finally got some shocking revelations about Leroy Gorman, and things are looking really bad for Joe Leaphorn – he’s in a seriously tough spot. It feels like everything is building to a climax as we head into the finale. Chee is confronting his own demons with the ghost sickness, but the biggest shocker? The search for Gorman took a turn I absolutely did not see coming. Everyone’s storylines are really starting to converge, and I’m on the edge of my seat to see how it all wraps up.

This week on Dark Winds, Irene successfully apprehended Billie Tsosie. The news was shocking enough, but it got even worse when Leaphorn learned that Leroy Gorman had been dead before the season even started. With so many unexpected turns, this week’s events definitely left viewers with plenty to discuss as the season 4 finale approaches.

Leaphorn Was Captured By Irene In Dark Winds Season 4, Episode 7

The latest episode of Dark Winds left viewers on the edge of their seats. Leaphorn learned the truth about Leroy Gorman, only to be attacked by someone pretending to be Leroy, along with Irene Vaggan. They overpowered him, likely using chloroform, and Irene then locked Joe in her car trunk, declaring, “You’re mine now, Joe,” as the episode concluded.

Irene’s last statements suggest her plans for Leaphorn are dangerous. She previously told her father she intended to invite Joe to their secluded bunker, and she’s repeatedly shown an unhealthy infatuation with him. It now appears she intends to hold Joe captive and try to force a relationship with him, despite his likely unwillingness.

In season 4, episode 6 of Dark Winds, Irene’s interaction with Emma Leaphorn reveals another level of her cold-heartedness. As Joe figured out, Irene didn’t kill Emma to demonstrate her power over him – she wants him to know she could end Emma’s life at any time and will use that threat to control his actions.

Leroy Gorman’s Fate & Phillip Grayson’s Twist Explained

The next-to-last episode of Dark Winds season 4 revealed a major surprise: Leroy Gorman had actually been dead for weeks. Bernadette, while in Los Angeles, realized a photo the FBI had of Gorman was actually of Phillip Grayson, a young Navajo man they’d met earlier in the season. Leaphorn then went to bring Grayson, who was actually Gorman, into FBI custody to protect him as a witness in the Dominic McNair trial.

During the investigation, Leaphorn discovered that Phillip Grayson wasn’t who he claimed to be – he wasn’t Leroy Gorman. Grayson and Irene had actually killed the real Leroy Gorman before the events of Dark Winds season 4 began. Irene then instructed Grayson to pretend to be Gorman, hoping he could testify in Dominic McNair’s trial and help McNair avoid conviction. To make this work, Irene replaced Gorman’s photo on file with one of Grayson.

What Really Happened With Chee’s Mother & Why It’s Affecting His Ghost Sickness

Throughout the current season of Dark Winds, Jim Chee has been battling ghost sickness, and the second-to-last episode finally explained the root cause. We learned that Chee’s mother passed away from lung cancer while he was living in Los Angeles. As Emma suspected, the ghost sickness wasn’t just from the death hogan, but was connected to Chee’s unresolved grief over his mother’s death.

Chee is deeply affected by his mother’s death, but his pain goes beyond grief. He feels tremendous guilt because he promised to bring her back to the Navajo reservation before she passed away, a promise he never kept. He admits he didn’t prioritize the trip and also doubted anyone there still cared for her.

It’s understandable why Chee doubted returning to the reservation would bring the peace his mother desired. As revealed in season 1 of Dark Winds, Chee explained to Bernadette that his mother was forced to leave the reservation years ago after being falsely accused of witchcraft and ostracized by her community. Considering the reservation hadn’t supported her when she was alive, Chee didn’t expect it to offer any comfort now that she was gone.

Sharing his guilt about his mother’s death with Bernadette seemed to help Chee. Back on the reservation, he spoke with Margaret Cigaret, a respected healer, and planned a ceremony to address his emotional and spiritual struggles. Bernadette also gave him hope by promising support from friends and family, which was something he hadn’t felt in a while.

Why Irene Killed Her Father In Dark Winds Season 4, Episode 7

One of the most affecting storylines this season of Dark Winds has been Irene Vaggan’s struggle with her father, Gunthar. It’s heartbreaking to watch her navigate his dementia – he genuinely believes the Second World War is still raging – and her attempts to find him safe, comfortable care. She’s been trying to move him into a retirement community, but he absolutely despises the idea and, sadly, often takes his frustration out on her. It’s a really tough situation, and the show handles it with a lot of sensitivity.

When Irene learned Gunthar had left their shelter and was walking near a country road, she intentionally drove her car into him, killing him. While a retirement home hadn’t worked because Gunthar disliked it, Irene still wanted to escape the duty of caring for him and enduring his insults. It likely seemed to Irene that killing him was a simple way to finally live life on her own terms.

Irene’s killing of Gunthar further proves how dangerous she is, and it creates new problems for Leaphorn. Irene is trying to build a false family life with Joe, and with Gunthar gone, she’s less likely to be caught and has fewer obstacles in her way. This could be a serious threat to Leaphorn, who has just been captured, in the upcoming fourth season of Dark Winds.
