Fans of the acclaimed AMC series Dark Winds have reason to celebrate – it’s been renewed for a fourth season! A new teaser offers a glimpse of what’s to come, hinting that the next eight episodes will take the show’s main characters to unfamiliar and potentially more perilous locations. While Dark Winds may not always be the most talked-about show, critics consistently love it – the first three seasons all have a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 4 will debut on AMC on February 15, 2026.
AMC describes the new season:
The fourth season of the series centers around the desperate search for a missing Navajo girl. This investigation takes detectives Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito far from home, leading them from the Navajo Nation to the dangerous streets of 1970s Los Angeles as they try to rescue her from a dangerous killer connected to criminal organizations. The second episode of the new season will premiere on Sunday, February 22nd, and is notable as the first time actor Zahn McClarnon has directed a television show.
What Is ‘Dark Winds’ About?

AMC
The television series Dark Winds premiered in 2022 and is adapted from the novels by Tony Hillerman. Graham Roland created the show, and John Wirth oversaw production as showrunner. Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin were producers on the series. Notably, Season 3 featured a cameo by Redford, which turned out to be his last on-screen role and final project as a creative force.
Westerns have always been popular on film and television, and we’re currently seeing a resurgence in the genre, largely thanks to shows like Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. Before this new version of Dark Winds, previous attempts to adapt the source material – including the movie The Dark Wind and TV movies Skinwalkers, Coyote Waits, and A Thief of Time – weren’t successful. This latest Dark Winds series arrives at a great time, as interest in Westerns is higher than it’s been in years, and modern TV production allows for a much more visually impressive experience than earlier adaptations.
The show has earned a lot of positive attention, largely thanks to producer and star Michael Greyeyes. Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison also feature prominently. Past seasons included actors like Noah Emmerich, Rainn Wilson, Jeri Ryan, Jenna Elfman, and Bruce Greenwood, and Season 4 welcomed new cast members Franka Potente, Chaske Spencer, and Titus Welliver.

AMC renewed the show for Season 4 even before Season 3 began airing, but it’s unclear how many seasons it will ultimately have.
