Daveigh Chase, Star of The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, Dead at 35

Daveigh Chase‘s loved ones are mourning a tragic loss.

Actress and star of The Ring, 35-year-old Lisa Marie Hernandez, passed away on June 16th after fighting meningitis and a blood infection, according to her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, as reported by TMZ.

According to Hernandez, Chase developed a severe blood infection that led to sepsis, causing her organs to fail. He also mentioned that the actress, known for voicing Lilo in the 2002 film Lilo & Stitch, had been hospitalized earlier in the month for malnutrition.

Hernandez shared a glimpse into Chase’s health battle shortly before her death.

I’ve always considered my girlfriend a bright spot in my life,” he shared on his GoFundMe page. Many people recognize her as the actress who appeared in films like Lilo & Stitch, Spirited Away, and Donnie Darko. However, she’s privately struggled with a lot of difficulties.

Daveigh had a tough upbringing and a strained relationship with her family, which led to bullying and difficulty finding peace in Los Angeles. When we connected, I vowed to care for her and offer the love and support she needed. We were able to share some joyful and hopeful times together.

However, he noted that Chase’s health began to decline quickly.

Daveigh has been diagnosed with meningitis and severe blood infections. Her condition is now critical, and doctors have warned that her time may be limited.

Hernandez shared that all her mother ever wished for was a comfortable home where they could all feel safe and happy. Now, as her mother’s health declines, Hernandez is determined to provide that feeling of peace and security in her final time with her.

Chase began her acting career at age 8 with a minor role in Sabrina the Teenage Witch before going on to star in projects like Donnie Darko and Big Love. She last appeared in 2016’s American Romance alongside Nolan Gerard Funk and Jack Goes Home with Nikki Reed before stepping out of the spotlight. 

Looking back at her career, the actress previously shared what she had hoped her legacy would be.

“I just want to make something that I love and people will respect,” she told Interview Magazine in 2009. “I want to do things that will change someone’s life, not something they’ll forget about tomorrow.”
