Daveigh Chase, who many remember as an actress from films like The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, passed away at 35 years old.
Chase died on Tuesday, June 16th, from meningitis and a blood infection that caused septic shock, according to her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, in a report to TMZ.
Hernandez told the publication that Chase had been hospitalised for malnutrition earlier in June.
She was an incredible person who had a deep love for cats. She volunteered with cat rescues alongside our team and was very independent,” said her manager, John Ryan Jr., in an interview with the BBC.
She wasn’t interested in the typical Hollywood lifestyle. She preferred simple pleasures like grabbing a bite at Bob’s Big Boy and relaxing with her cats. While she enjoyed acting, she disliked the attention that came with being famous.
Chase launched her career as a child actor at the age of 7, appearing in commercials and on stage.
She first became well-known at the age of eight when she appeared on an episode of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch in 1998. She later had roles in popular TV shows like Charmed, ER, and The Practice.
In the 2001 movie Donnie Darko, Chase played the role of Samantha Darko and acted alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
She voiced Chihiro in the English version of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away that same year. However, she’s probably most remembered for playing Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch in 2002.

The actor continued to voice the character in many follow-up movies and a TV show that aired from 2003 to 2006.
In 2002, Daveigh Chase gained widespread recognition for her chilling performance as Samara Morgan in The Ring. She won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain in 2003 for the role, triumphing over strong competition including Willem Dafoe (as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man), Colin Farrell (Daredevil), and Mike Myers.
Her final acting roles were in the independent horror movie Jack Goes Home and American Romance.
Hernandez started a GoFundMe campaign hoping to bring Chase comfort and peace at home during her last few days, before she passed away.
He wrote of her “hardships”, including a difficult childhood and falling out with her family.
