For David Boreanaz, it was all about the small moments with costar Nicholas Brendon.
After Brendon passed away on March 20th at 54, a former colleague from Buffy the Vampire Slayer shared a heartfelt message remembering their time working together.
Boreanaz shared on Instagram that Nick wasn’t just a colleague, but a true friend. He wrote that Nick had a natural impact on people, leaving a lasting impression without even seeming to try.
Boreanaz, known for his role as Angel, fondly remembered the easy connection he shared with his co-star. They often laughed between scenes and communicated with knowing glances, demonstrating a mutual respect and dedication to their work.
Boreanaz explained that the actor brought authenticity to his role. It wasn’t about perfection, but about genuine emotion. He emphasized that, in the entertainment industry, simply having a meaningful presence is often more important than the length of someone’s time on screen. Ultimately, the character’s impact mattered, and he definitely made one.
He concluded, “Rest easy Brother.”
Emilio Boreanaz is grateful to have been involved in Joss Whedon’s famous supernatural series, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. He previously mentioned that he was initially only contracted for six out of the twelve episodes.
He explained to Entertainment Weekly in 2017 that while success can seem sudden, you need to be prepared when the opportunity arrives. He used the example of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, saying he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, but he’d worked for years just to get his foot in the door. He even admitted he used to get extremely nervous trying to do simple commercials, like ones for gum.
Building on the success of Buffy, he explained that overcoming challenges is essential for growth. He said that once you achieve a goal, it’s not time to rest—you simply move on to new ones.

Brendon played Xander on the show from 1997 to 2003, and then went on to appear in popular series like Criminal Minds and Private Practice. He’s also been in films such as Coherence and Attack of the Morningside Monster. According to IMDb, he has two upcoming projects: Best Sheep and Once in a Blue Moon.
I was absolutely devastated to learn about everything Brendon’s been going through. It turns out he’s been fighting some really serious health issues lately. The worst was finding out he had cauda equina syndrome – it’s this incredibly rare thing where nerves in his spine get squeezed. Parkland Health said if it’s not treated fast, it can cause permanent paralysis, problems with his bladder and bowels, even loss of sensation… it was terrifying to read, and I’ve been so worried about him ever since. I just hope he gets all the care he needs!

In recent years, Brendon struggled with several health issues, including a diagnosis of cauda equina syndrome. This rare condition happens when nerves in the spine get squeezed, and Parkland Health explains that without treatment, it can lead to lasting paralysis, loss of bladder or bowel control, and other serious problems.

Let me share a bit about my health journey. Back in 2021, I had two surgeries to address an ongoing issue. Then, in 2022, I ended up in the hospital because my heart was racing – it turned out I was born with a heart defect. It’s been a process, but I’m focusing on wellness and taking things one day at a time.
He died in his sleep of natural causes, his family confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter March 20.
