David Corenswet Reveals Which DC Character He Wants Superman to Fight Alongside (& It Will Surprise You)

In the upcoming screen adaptations of the DC Universe, fans can look forward to unprecedented team-ups that have never been seen before. The actors involved are already thrilled about the prospect of some truly original character pairings. Recently, ComicBook had a chat with David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult prior to the release of Superman on July 11th, and they all expressed excitement over the potential appearance of DC Comics’ Gotham city in the DC Universe. For Corenswet, however, it’s not just about witnessing Superman and Batman together – he’s intrigued by how these iconic heroes will interact with younger superheroes and apprentices. Specifically, Corenswet is hoping to see a Robin character in the DCU, and wants to see more interactions between him and Superman.

When asked who he’s most looking forward to seeing among DC Universe characters, Corenswet mused, “I believe Batman is my top pick, but a thought just struck me: one of the Robins – perhaps a different version of Robin – could be intriguing. You see, I think Superman has a strong fatherly vibe. Although his relationship with his sons has been explored in some versions, it might be fascinating to have him as a sort of mentor figure for Batman’s young protege.

It seems that Corenswet might be onto an intriguing idea, as DCU creator James Gunn has hinted at bringing Batman and Robin together in a project, with Damian Wayne Robin being Batman’s son from Talia al Ghul. If this happens, the interaction between Damian and Superman could be captivating on its own. Furthermore, this setup might pave the way for the introduction of another character who aligns with Corenswet’s interests: Jonathan Samuel Kent.

Introduced in DC Comics back in 2015, the present-day character of Jonathan Kent is actually Superman and Lois Lane’s son who assumed the role of Superboy at just 10 years old. During this period, he partnered with Batman and Robin to form a crime-fighting duo known as “Super Sons.” Initially, their collaboration was met with reluctance, but they proved to be an effective team. Their dynamic soon became popular among fans. Incorporating this duo into the DC Universe could bring about some enjoyable storylines, although it might necessitate delving into complex lore related to time dilation.

Without Jonathan, Damian Wayne is still a fantastic fit for the DCU, and it would be splendid if he could interact with Superman for a while. Unlike other Robins, Damian was predominantly raised by his mother within the League of Assassins, making him equally formidable as Batman in combat and detective work. However, he requires mentoring when it comes to moral and ethical matters. Superman would serve as an ideal role model for Damian, and Damian’s unique take on innocence could bring a fresh perspective to the Man of Steel.

It’s uncertain as to when or where Batman and Robin will make their appearance in the DC Universe, but there’s plenty more to get excited about! Superman is set to debut in cinemas on July 11th, this Friday. Tickets for the show are already available for purchase.
