Even though David Tennant doesn’t play Doctor Who anymore, a lost episode from his time as the Tenth Doctor might be released. Writer Mark Gatiss has revealed that a story originally planned for his version of the character could be brought back to life.
Mark Gatiss revealed that the episode, The Suicide Exhibition, nearly went into production several times in the late 2000s. He recently told Radio Times that Big Finish, a company known for its audio dramas, is now considering turning his script into an audio production, offering a hopeful outlook for the story.
The author acknowledged he hadn’t heard from Big Finish recently, but remains optimistic they’ll contact him again in the future.
I wrote two different versions of a story. The first was set during World War I, and the second involved Nazis. I essentially just shifted the story to a different war. The current version, called ‘The Suicide Exhibition,’ takes place in the British Museum and is an adventure story similar to ‘Indiana Jones.’ I’m quite pleased with how it turned out, and I still have a copy. Big Finish, a production company, showed some interest in it, but things have been quiet lately. I’m hoping to hear from them soon!
Although The Suicide Exhibition was never filmed, Mark Gatiss has significantly impacted Doctor Who. He’s written several episodes that fans often rank among the series’ best, including An Adventure in Space and Time, a drama celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary, and The Unquiet Dead to Sleep No More.
Big Finish has produced a lot of content related to Doctor Who. They create audio dramas starring both classic and newer versions of the Doctor, often set in different timelines or universes. The company has also adapted scripts that were never made into television episodes and developed spin-off series, such as Torchwood.
Although BBC plans to continue making Doctor Who, a release date for the next season hasn’t been announced yet. We do know a Christmas special is scheduled for 2026. Plus, the spin-off series The War Between the Land and Sea will premiere in the UK on December 7, 2025, and will be available to stream on Disney+ in the US in 2026.
